Heavy progressive blues without enough psychedelic touches to make it uplifting when needed or burrowing down and heading for the dark when called for. Indeed, all sides have their moment and their time. Light and Shadow feels like they’re filtering sunlight through an old amplifier, warm, dusty, soulful and alive. Saturna honor the past without becoming its prisoners. They take the old flames, add their own oxygen, and let them burn brightly once again. “‘Light and Shadow’ lives in the tension between opposing forces. Across nine songs, Saturna move between weight and space, clarity and confusion, restraint and release. Heavy riffs collide with expansive textures, melodic passages emerge from moments of raw intensity, and songs constantly shift between light and darkness without settling comfortably in either. Rather than following a single path, the album embraces contradiction. Some songs push forward with purpose and momentum, while others drift, unfold slowly and linger in the distance. Together, they form a body of work shaped by contrasts, where strength and vulnerability exist side by side. ‘Light and Shadow’ captures Saturna at their most expansive and expressive, exploring familiar ground from new angles while remaining rooted in the sound that has defined them for more than a decade.”
