Five-piece GOLEM go for the gusto with their first long-play album! And A Tale Of Dust And Tide is definitely that! A long-play album, eighteen tracks, and more than two hours!! You want value for your buck on bandcamp Friday?! Wow! Unusually ambitious debut for a relatively obscure underground band; but you’d better believe that those two hours are jam-packed with tight riffs, wild guitar work and thunderous rhythms. Fuzz-drenched, groovy and catchy these two hours fly by! And as you traverse the GOLEM universe you will be led through a fantastical world of crusades, battles and mythological creatures… A sprawling, immersive journey where ancient tales rise from the dust and the tide carries you ever onward. Ambitious. Absolutely. But GOLEM make the journey feel effortless, leaving you wanting to turn around and walk back into the haze for another two hours…

24. THE SPACELORDS – URANUS OMNIBUS SANCTUS / NEW!
981 Points
Space Rock, Psych, Stoner, Krautrock
Reutlingen, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany
Tonzonen Records
THE SPACELORDS are just like everyone else, they put their space boots on one foot at a time. Once they’re on, it’s time to strap in for a cosmic ride through the stars. Uranus Omnibus Sanctus wraps the listener in an absolute cloak of sound, spaced-out guitars that shred with precision, keyboards that swirl hypnotically, and a rhythm section that has mastered heaviness and expansiveness. What unfolds is a journey where the music shifts effortlessly through calming psychedelic passages, hypnotic krautrock grooves, and soaring space rock crescendos.
~ Jon McGough (Stoner Rock Army, Stoner HiVe, Outlaws Of The Sun)
23. ALLUME – EX LUTO / NEW!
1107 Points
Desert Rock, Hard Rock, Post-Stoner
Italy
Argonauta Records
It is Italian and it is addictive, also sung in Italian so not sure what is being said, but the message is there; Rock Heavy Rock Hard. A full-on fuel driven primal charge of rage. Work out music, clean house music, wake up music, get your ass in gear music. ALLUME wants you to appreciate the live performance put into recording of this album, which helps you feel the bands stage presence. Sweat it out with ALLUME loudly.
~ Turbo (Rich & Turbo’s Heavy Half Hour)
22. SHOVELHEAD – A PLACE OF DEAD ROADS / NEW!
1330 Points
Stoner Rock, Heavy Rock
Freehold Township, New Jersey
Self-released
New Jersey-based stoner rockers SHOVELHEAD have released their first new music in over twenty years with their fourth album A Place of Dead Roads. The album explodes right out of the gate with timeless, riff-driven stoner rock underlined by punchy energy and groove. This atmosphere quickly blends with a strong presence of vintage heavy rock, adding an abundance of warmth to SHOVELHEAD‘s tone as it unfurls like a ribbon of sun-parched highway, an image made even more vivid by long instrumental stretches. Naturally, heavy psych makes an appearance, delivering refreshing waves of hypnotic trippiness that tend to get stronger in the latter half of the album. To add to their immersive sound, completely capable of standing on its own instrumentally, SHOVELHEAD is graced by a powerful vocalist whose echoing, unrestrained intonations are often less about melody and all about raw expression. Taken together, all of these elements create a rollicking ride that seems to end far too soon, hooking the listener from start to finish with the driving energy of classic stoner, the timeless grooves of heavy rock, and cool splashes of psychedelia.
~ Stephanie Zalta (DoomCakes, Screaming From The Heavy Underground)
21. LÁGOON – FORGET WHAT YOU HEARD / NEW!
1400 Points
Garage, Doom, Punk, Psych, Stoner
Portland, USA
Interstellar Smoke Records / Evil Noise Recordings
LÁGOON return with six rounds of Portland fuzz-damaged lunacy fired straight from the heavy underground and aimed directly at your eardrums! Punk, Doom, Garage, Psych and Stoner collide on Forget What You Heard in pure LÁGOON fashion! You know the deal, blown speakers, bad behaviour and wild scuzzy riff worship! You Tried (You Failed) is that languid stoner punk and garage burner, slowly seeping into your veins, spicing up your blood and giving you Skullactic Visions, but not before Kill The Messenger already kicked the door off its hinges with some glorious chaos, house burning kind of stoner noise! Once heard, Forget What You Heard, will be in your blood forever…
~ Joop Konraad (Stoner HiVe)
20. APODEMUS – RADAR / NEW!
1520 Points
Instrumental, Psych rock, Stoner rock
Nizhny Novgorod, Russia
Anchor Lights
Five tracks and about 35 minutes of instrumental psychedelic rock infused with heavy spacey hypnotic vibes. APODEMUS have been charting their brand of aural signaling since at least 2017, but this is the first time they’ve crossed my path. While they aren’t reinventing the wheel, there’s enough original DNA for this album to land in my top six September releases, and I’ll definitely delve deeper into their back catalog.
~ Jukka ‘Shrike’ Kolehmainen (Shrike’s Listens)
19. TERRA BLACK – MIRAGE / NEW!
1548 Points
Doom, Occult
Gothenburg, Sweden
Bonebag Records
Atmospheric occult psych doom with amazing vocals and excellent production. What more does one want? Chunky, big riffs, siren song vocals, heavy psych elements, Mirage is straight up fire. Occult fire? Ritual fire? I don’t know, but it sure is hot. TERRA BLACK brings it with Mirage, and a very worthy contender for your end of year lists.
~ Rich Piva (Musipedia of Metal, FuzzDoomRip, Rich & Turbo’s Heavy Half Hour)
18. KITSA – II / NEW!
1664 Points
Grunge, Stoner Rock
Port Orchard, Washington
Music Abuse Records
KITSA is a highly underrated band from Port Orchard, Washington who you may remember from their 2024 debut Dead by Dawn. The riff-driven grungy stoner rockers are now back with their sophomore album II, and this time around, KITSA employs a darker sound that’s heavily inspired by the current political climate. While the tones are doomier and more metal-forward, they’re also grungier than ever. And, in spite of the more serious atmosphere, KITSA doesn’t fail to deliver pockets of the soulful, feel-good vibes they enchanted us with on their debut album. Speaking of soulful, the powerful, unfettered vocals give their most emotionally charged performance yet, diving deep into the gravity of the lyrical subject matter. Even with a heavier, darker presentation, KITSA maintains an organic, approachable, and AUTHENTIC sound that will encourage you to open your eyes as much as rock out.
~ Stephanie Zalta (DoomCakes, Screaming From The Heavy Underground)
17. CREEPER BUD – CREEPER BUD / NEW!
1720 Points
Doom, Stoner, Sludge, Psych
Carbondale, Illinois
River To River Community Records
Do not dismiss CREEPER BUD as another one of these weed-obsessed stoner bands with all ganja references and no substance behind their music, because their self-titled debut kicks so much ass, above and beyond their love of the Devil’s lettuce. These seven songs are complex crushers that bring some cool psych, sludge, and serious killer guitar work into the mix that will leave a path of destruction in its wake, that pairs nicely with the poof of green smoke.
~ Rich Piva (Musipedia of Metal, FuzzDoomRip, Rich & Turbo’s Heavy Half Hour)
16. MISSISSIPPI BONES – MALADROIT BLUES FOR THE COLORBLIND / NEW!
2704 Points
Hard Rock, Blues, Stoner Rock
Ada, Ohio, USA
Dustin Donley / Self-released
If you enjoy the lyrical poetry of Clutch, Mr. Bungle, White Zombie, and the like, MISSISSIPPI BONES brings all of that and a bag of beats. Storytelling songs that have so much going on they require multiple listens, and since the music that accompanies it is fuzzed out heavy blues based Southern Rock tinged ambrosia makes it so much easier to do so. Ten years in and the MISSISSIPPI BONES fellas give us one of their most solid cohesive albums yet, perfect for drinking beers on the back porch waiting for the local cryptid to wander through the yard.
~ Turbo (Rich & Turbo’s Heavy Half Hour)
15. HIJSS – HIJSS / NEW!
2712 Points
Psychedelic Rock, Kosmo-kraut, Cosmic-grunge, Space-punk
Northern Italy
Heavy Psych Sounds Records
Two years ago, I was very impressed by Stuck On Common Ground, HIJSS‘s debut album. I was eagerly awaiting the follow-up, and I wasn’t disappointed by this sophomore s/t album. The trio’s magic formula lies in their paradoxical ability to play a brand of psychedelia that is vibrant and energetic rather than introverted or spacey. We gaze out at the cosmic vastness, yet feel a desire… to party! HIJSS possesses a strong sense of drama and skillfully crafts intense, gripping build-ups. The band has a powerful sonic identity, though I should note that appreciating it requires an open mind toward electro-music. Rest assured, however, Terminator-basslines and fuzz-fueled guitars are definitely part of the mix!
~ Thierry “Pumpkin-T“ François (Metal Intégral)
14. KONGH – DISSOLVED IN TIME / NEW!
2730 Points
Doom metal, Sludge
Nässjö, Sweden
Trust No One Recordings
KONGH has been around for quite a long time and this latest one carries the same DNA as before, but now injected with whatever it was that Yob had going in their first decade. It’s got pretty and sad melodies, prowling rhythms and immense weight behind it all. They are not sludge in the strictest sense, given how articulate and polished their sound is, but the influence is there. On this, three track, 30-minute album, they’re a weighty metal band with a eclectic blend of genres at their core.
~ Jukka ‘Shrike’ Kolehmainen (Shrike’s Listens)
13. PELEGRIN – THE CURSE OF NEPHTAR / NEW!
2743 Points
Stoner Rock, Heavy Psych, Doom Metal
Nantes, France
Ripple Music
PELEGRIN’s desert rock doesn’t hesitate to fly into the ethereal skies of heavy psych or plunge into the dark depths of doom. Their third album, The Curse Of Nephtar, makes for a varied and highly enjoyable journey. I appreciate the band’s musical identity, specifically because of the blend of Oriental and epic elements in their melodies. I highly recommend listening to it with the lyric booklet on your lap, as the fantastic and mythology-infused story the band tells is truly worth it.
~ Thierry “Pumpkin-T“ François (Metal Intégral)
12. SLEEP – HEMPISPHERES / NEW!
2769 Points
Doom, Metal, Doom
San Jose, California, USA
Third Man Records
Have you heard of this new band called SLEEP? They should have added an extra E somewhere, Sleeep or Sleepe so the purist wouldn’t have tender feelings. Be it as it may this is SLEEP in 2026 and if you didn’t know who was behind the making of Hempispheres it would be just another amazing album released this year. Or it should have been marketed as, “This one has a shirt”; opportunity missed. All poking the bear aside, this is a fantastic Doom album worth many repeat listens as it is a grower. It is a move in a new direction for the band while still staying true to its core foundation.
~ Turbo (Rich & Turbo’s Heavy Half Hour)
11. HAZEMIND – INNER SANCTUM / NEW!
4065 Points
Stoner Rock, Heavy Rock
Montreal, Quebec, Canada
Self-released
HAZEMIND are proficient in the art of the riff, as Inner Sanctum is a riff-filled slab of energetic stoner rock with warm-toned, fuzzy guitars throughout. The band also places emphasis on hooks and melodies in the songs. Repetitive, catchy choruses are found on each song, making the tracks immediately memorable. The vocals themselves are a standout feature; I found myself hearing a resemblance to Dozer on a few tracks. Even if you don’t agree in that regard, I think you will find that HAZEMIND bring that early 2000’s stoner rock sound to life on this debut.
~ Jon McGough (Stoner Rock Army, Stoner HiVe, Outlaws Of The Sun)
10. VILLAGERS OF IOANNINA CITY – VENCEREMOS / NEW!
4303 Points
Heavy Rock, Psychedelic Rock, Progressive Rock, Folk Rock
Ioannina, Greece
Napalm Records
With Venceremos, VILLAGERS OF IOANNINA CITY continue to expand their unique blend of heavy rock, psychedelia and Greek folk, pushing their sound into even heavier and more progressive territory. Powerful riffs, Alex Karametis’ distinctive vocals, keyboards, drums, bagpipes and other traditional instruments all come together in arrangements that can be both massive and wonderfully psychedelic. The electronic touches add another layer to the band’s sound, while tracks like Home show just how naturally they can move between atmosphere, melody and heavier riff-driven sections. A richly textured album from a band that keeps developing its own unmistakable language.
~ Marek (Dezarbuzator)
9. IRON JINN – ZEITGEIST ON THE RUN / NEW!
4755 Points
Progressive Rock, Psychedelic Rock, Punk
Arnhem, Netherlands
Suburban Records / Rimbou Music
I get the feeling someone in IRON JINN is a Les Baxter fan. If you aren’t familiar; Les Baxter is the father of Exotica (Space Age Lounge Music) and on a closer note to this genre, also composed the score for the American version of the Italian film Black Sabbath. If you are familiar with Baxter’s work you will hear bit and pieces through this magnificent progressive menagerie of music IRON JINN have completed. A hypnotic journey through psychedelic progressive stoner audioscapes that you kinda want to kick back and enjoy with a martini.
~ Turbo (Rich & Turbo’s Heavy Half Hour)
8. THE WELL – …AND FLAMES RAN LIKE LIVING ANIMALS / NEW!
5005 Points
Psychedelic Rock, Doom, Stoner
Austin, Texas
Spaceflight Records
After nearly seven years away, Texas band THE WELL, active since 2011, is making a thunderous comeback with its fourth album. It’s also a welcome return because, upon listening to …AND FLAMES RAN LIKE LIVING ANIMALS, it’s clear that we’ve missed the Austin trio terribly. We had been deprived of the delicate heaviness of their riffs and had likely been unconsciously searching amid the flood of the best releases in recent years for the unsettling and relentless sensuality of their melodies. Likewise, we were certainly looking out, without realising it, for a band that could live up to the sensations brought about by their highly personal, genre-bending doom. This new album, richer, more varied, even more bolder, fully succeeds in filling the void for long-time fans, while also surprising us all over again. It instantly becomes a new classic in the band’s discography!
~ Jay Baner (La Capsule Stoner)
7. MOON DESTROYS – OMNI / NEW!
7020 Points
Stoner Rock, Heavy Psych, Post-Grunge
Atlanta, Georgia, USA
Blues Funeral Recordings
I was very impressed by OMNI, the second full-length album from MOON DESTROYS. The album kicks off with two hard-hitting stoner metal tracks, driven by a rhythm section with the raw power of a raging locomotive. It is only after this thunderous introduction that the band ventures into a much broader sonic realm, encompassing everything from atmospheric instrumentals to dark, doom-riffed tracks. MOON DESTROYS sounds like an amazing and powerful synthesis of the whole heavy rock genres! This is a must-have.
~ Thierry “Pumpkin-T“ François (Metal Intégral)
6. DEATHCHANT – KOVA / NEW!
7696 Points
Stoner Rock, Heavy Metal
Los Angeles, California
RidingEasy Records
Los Angeles-based stoner rock/heavy metal quartet DEATHCHANT is back with their fourth album KOVA. This highly personal release is named for the band’s late friend Danny Kova and is “simultaneously a raucous send-off worthy of a Viking, an introspective look at manhood, and a dyed-in-the-wool badass brainstorming hard rock record”. The album is deeply poignant for the most part, showing a vulnerable, emotionally expressive, and palpably authentic side of the band. And, though the album is profoundly heartfelt, DEATHCHANT maintains their signature sound, delivering a standout blend of hazy 70s heavy psych reminiscent of Budgie, hard rock laced with traditional heavy metal in the vein of Rose Tattoo, and all the barreling grittiness of Motörhead. Overall, KOVA supplies that characteristic silky smooth yet delightfully turbulent sound we know and love from DEATHCHANT while providing a distinctively sincere and moving listening experience that will sear its mark directly on your heart.
~ Stephanie Zalta (DoomCakes, Screaming From The Heavy Underground)
5. EARLY MOODS – READY FOR THE GRAVE / NEW!
7939 Points
Doom Metal
Los Angeles, CA, USA
RidingEasy Records
There’s something special about EARLY MOODS that distinguishes them from other doom artists. The 3rd outstanding full length release Ready for the Grave continues to build on the extraordinary self titled debut from 2022. EARLY MOODS captures the pure essence of traditional doom with their own perfect modern touch influenced by the unique incredible sounds of legendary doom acts such as Trouble, Candlemass, and Sabbath. You’ll hear some of the best clean vocals in the genre along with sizzling guitar work and a tempo that flows beautifully through the 7 tracks on this stellar new release. Ready for the Grave takes all the best elements of legendary doom and generates an unmatched delicious bowl of modern doomy soup.
~ Hugh Jones (The OG Metal Prophet, The Prophet’s Heavy Underground)
4. GREEN LUNG – NECROPOLITAN / NEW!
8857 Points
Doom Metal, Occult Rock, Metal
London, England
Nuclear Blast
Necropolitan encompasses everything we love about GREEN LUNG, but supercharged. The Sabbath and Deep Purple influences are strong throughout, with classic rock and occult themes continuing to be the foundation of their songcraft. Yet Necropolitan feels bigger, sharper, and more focused. Every song is engaging and attention-grabbing, with not a weak point to be found. The production is all-around amazing, the vocals are crisp and clear, the guitars have a serious punch, and the organs sitting high in the mix push the band’s sound towards its most refined and polished form to date.
~ Jon McGough (Stoner Rock Army, Stoner HiVe, Outlaws Of The Sun)
3. SATURNA – LIGHT AND SHADOW / NEW!
9684 Points
Classic Rock, Psychedelic, Soulful Blues Rock
Barcelona, Spain
Spinda Records / Ripple Music / Discos Macarras
The feeling of an old warm tube amp. As an old amp collects the essence of those that have used it before the young lads of SATURNA have soaked all that in to have that classic heavy 70’s era hard rock sound with a pick and choose type of influence. Along with what some could imagine, Chris Cornell’s father would have sounded like if he sang for some mystical band.
~ Turbo (Rich & Turbo’s Heavy Half Hour)
2. MR BISON – THE GARDEN OF FORGOTTEN DREAMS / NEW!
12894 Points
Stoner Rock, Progressive Rock
Cecina, Italy
Heavy Psych Sounds Records
Italian heavy psych and prog wizards MR. BISON deliver a moving blend of the heavy and the light with their new album, The Garden of Forgotten Dreams. Here, the band continues to focus more on gentler tones that evoke clear images of the natural world, saturating their sound with gossamer psychedelic atmospheres. Far from a somnolent experience, The Garden of Forgotten Dreams is layered with a multitude of auras including some spacey moments, smokey heavy rock interludes, and surges of coarse stoner riffage, creating a highly textured and ever-changing sound. Blink and you might miss something. Of course, MR. BISON’s masterful use of prog provides a perfect framework for the aforementioned elements to reside in, molding them into emotive swells and stirring shifts in mood. My favorite aspect of The Garden of Forgotten Dreams is MR. BISON‘s clever employment of the garden theme, which stands out brilliantly throughout the album. Managing to be equally as strong and established as the roots of an old tree and as delicate as a Sakura blossom in both sound and deeper meaning, the idea of the garden serves “as a metaphor for refuge”.
~ Stephanie Zalta (DoomCakes, Screaming From The Heavy Underground)
1. UNCLE ACID AND THE DEADBEATS – SHAPES OF MIDNIGHT / NEW!
15156 Points
Doom, Psychedelic Rock, Occult Rock, Stoner
Cambridge, England
Killer Candy Records
Kevin Starrs’ band is back with a seventh album, a little heavy rock bomb that sounds like a ton of bricks! They return to the sound that made their early albums so successful and efficacious: heavy yet melodic psychedelic doom with a unique vocal tone. Indeed, UNCLE ACID—or Kevin K.R. Starrs—has a distinctive voice that i’d describe it as “nonchalant” and a bit nasal. There’s a bit of ozzy in there, but i think he has his own vocal signature nonetheless. A real epic voice which creates a dark and horrific atmosphere. The guitar riffs and solos are sturdy with a 70’s twist revival sounds. Their new album, shapes of midnight, is quite the treat. The songs have a killer groove, and it’s all great from start to finish. 45 minutes of heavy bangers that make you want to hit “play” again as soon as the last track ends. Solid, heavy riffs—a little gritty—set against a psychedelic garage sound with fuzz cranked to the max! At times, it even borders on old-school punk! Their sense of melody is spot-on, and the british band’s music is fascinating, catchy, and trippy. Truly a masterpiece that you’ll find on every charts of doom enthusiast.
~ Edouard Dubuisson (Les chroniques d’Eddy, MetalUniverse)
“Shapes Of Midnight” sees UNCLE ACID AND THE DEADBEATS distill all their previous sound explorations into a potent cauldron brew of Occult-themed Psychedelia; Steeped in a heavy fuzz and reverb, the band stagger, slither and ooze through tracks like “House by the Grave”, “Don’t Let It Control You” and “The Other Side Of The Sky” showcasing just why they’re an eminent force in the Psychedelic Echelons. A Highlight of the Year!
~ Steve De Rique (Howls from The Hollows, Doomed & Stoned,Stoner HiVe)
UNCLE ACID AND THE DEADBEATS return with Shapes of Midnight, blending their signature occult doom, garage grit and psychedelic haze with an unexpected abundance of hooks. After years of evolution, the band finds a thrilling balance between sinister atmosphere, melodic vocals and insidious riffs… Turning all that blood-soaked darkness into a party until dawn…
