MY SLEEPING KARMA – ATMA
Shall we state the obvious? We bookend this Friday Freebie session with another banger! It’s the brand new MY SLEEPING KARMA release ATMA! On the Doom Charts two months in a row. Number 4 back in July and Number 10 in August. We thank Doktor420, Napalm Records and ofcourse MY SLEEPING KARMA!
Tony van Dorston: “Germany’s MY SLEEPING KARMA began as Colour Haze acolytes, with their first three albums from 2006-10 on the band’s Elektrohasch label. But from the start, the band has gone in their own direction toward instrumental space rock with some post-rock influences. The result is a nearly flawless body of work that rewards immersive deep listening for those open to the expressive potential of instrumental psychedelic rock. Album art and titles suggest a strong spiritual element of Hinduism is involved in their worldview, and the music can certainly work for meditation sessions, as long as one isn’t too distracted by awesome drumming. My favorite probably remains Soma (2012), but you can’t go wrong with any of their six albums.“
Roberto Lucas: “With feelings on the surface, each song contains beautiful passages and multiple incentives, but all of them form a beautiful whole. Full of textures and nuances, they manage to trap the listener in a dream from which they will never want to wake up. A balsamic effect that the band enriches with dynamic and hypnotic rhythms, between monumental instrumental passages, to which they embed their usual heavy hits. ATMA is the darkest and most personal album of a magical band, which once again creates a magical album.”
