We wish you all a very happy Halloween! And if you reside in a territory that does not celebrate this or you don’t give a hoot about Halloween, well, we wish you a very happy Saturday! And to celebrate all that happiness we have another Freebie for ya! It ranked on the 23rd spot on the September edition and the outfit hails from Italy! It’s ALLUME! And their Ex-Luto album! On it, they unless a crushing, sweat soaked onslaught of sonic devastation! Born in the pandemic-era of dubious darkness and captured almost entirely live in a resort on Sicily, this is riff-heavy, groove-drenched mayhem. Thunderous guitars, slithering bass and pounding drums collide in a glorious kamikaze ride! Let’s go!
Or as Turbo (Rich & Turbo’s Heavy Half Hour) wrote for the September 2026 Doom Charts: “It is Italian and it is addictive, also sung in Italian so not sure what is being said, but the message is there; Rock Heavy Rock Hard. A full-on fuel driven primal charge of rage. Work out music, clean house music, wake up music, get your ass in gear music. ALLUME wants you to appreciate the live performance put into recording of this album, which helps you feel the bands stage presence. Sweat it out with ALLUME loudly.”
Joop Konraad (Stoner HiVe) wrote: “Those smash ‘n grab albums will forever have a special place in my heart. You know. There’s a particular kind of heaviness that just immediately settles in your bones. And yes, Ex Luto, the new offering from Italy’s ALLUME is all that and more. It belongs to the darker strain of these species, with riffs that run, sprint and attack. Bass lines that ooze and slither. And drums that beat out that visceral boom, that pounding pulse. A heart attack lying in wait! Most of these tracks were apparently born during those strange and fractured days of the pandemic. And then captured almost entirely live at Villa Ridente in Gioiosa Marea on Sicily in the summer of 2024. That must have been a wild and drenched time! Four musicians from Arezzo, Italy, locked in that sea side resort, tourists milling around outside, and the amps turned up so loud that all that madness outside was entirely banished. Guitars rising with the heat, in great black and thunderous waves. Bass burrowing deeper, booming together with the Tyrrhenian surf, letting the natural repetition become the ritual. Yes, there’s sweat dripping from this album… And all that dirt beneath the fingernails, it’s audible… Just listen to opener Espressionismi, immediately pounding you into submission. Following Stanco revving you up relentlessly. And single La Stessa Idea dragging you into the undertow. Neck deep and completely addicted to the Allume sound there is nothing but more DMT heaviness lying in wait. Slowly the song grow longer, leaving even more marks and scars… Starting with Più In Basso, which drags you further down, leaving the groove and the different sections of the song to rearrange everything that was floating around in your skull. Allume has it all and makes me long for Italy even more. Sure, they aren’t here to try and reinvent the wheel. That was never the intention. They simple doused it with gasoline, set it on fire, watched it roll downhill and ran wherever the smoke took them. Ex Luto is the right kind of kamikaze!”
Their own words:
Octopus Rising & Argonauta Records present:
Allume – Ex Luto [2026]
New album of heavy, atmospheric post stoner rock.
ALLUME return with “Ex Luto”, their new album of heavy, atmospheric post stoner rock. Recorded almost entirely live, the album combines crushing guitar walls, psychedelic bass textures and hypnotic grooves, exploring loss, change and transformation. More direct and visceral than their debut O.D.E., Ex Luto captures the raw intensity and emotional tension of a band built for volume.
