Well, PHANTOM DRUID continues to delivers a rich blend of classic and modern doom, combining the bluesy, riff-driven groove of early Black Sabbath with the crushing weight of Candlemass. The result sits between stoner, post-, and epic doom, anchored by Tjeerd de Jong’s raw, low-pitched vocals, sometimes even reminiscent of Ozzy, but darker and deeper and more forlorn. Hints of Type O Negative’s melancholy and early Life of Agony’s grit broaden the palette. ILLUMINATION OF THE DEATH MASK offers a varied, atmospheric, and nostalgically listening experience for doom fans old and new…
