Isn’t this incredible? It’s gotta be some kind of record! Everyone loves a Freebie, you got to get a Freebie, Freebie, Freebie, go Freebie go! Friday isn’t stopping yet! And we hope KAPITUR won’t either! And we trust they won’t cause they released a new single called Altar Of Sanity back in February. But this Freebie is for their Covered In Dust EP from 2023, which reached the 36 spot of the July 2023 Doom Charts. Four full tracks and demo version of the second track on the EP all delivered with breathtaking blackened sludge toned, cello-doom. That’s right, KAPITUR is fronted by Bruna Wanderley who also plays the cello. Overtones of more atmospheric post-metal influences slither through the compositions, but there’s always that black fog to sever you from all existence…
Joop Konraad (Stoner HiVe) wrote: “Haunting or terrifying, confrontational, and blessed with a serene cello slithering through the blackened sonic terror translating both tenderness and destruction. Already rife with so much emotional depth that its intensity is intimidating. One would imagine only barely surviving, by the skin of their teeth, as you experience a rabid KAPITUR live…”
Their own words:
“Inspired by personal struggles, trauma, exile, and the safe space found in sci-fi literature, the album explores wonder, solitude, and disillusionment. Thematically, this is a psychological record. The existential themes are metaphors for the process of leaving one’s own homeland, failing to adapt, and making someone else your home to then yearn for salvation. The music travels from bleak cacophony to comforting melodies played on the cello, with warm, sorrowful tones that take you on an individual journey in a timeless space. A soul-searching amalgamation of chaos and beauty that unfold an atmosphere and pace that allows for the coexistence of tranquility and despair.”
