SERGEANT THUNDERHOOF – THIS SCEPTERED VEIL
They’re playing The Sophie Lancaster Festival tomorrow in Manchester. A great festival for a great cause! And with this great band on the bill, they will surely have one of their best editions ever. For the band ranked all the way on Number One back in June! And rightfully so. Cause they’ve been releasing awesome album after amazing album until reaching the legendary watermark with the release of this year: This Sceptered Veil. We’re talking about SERGEANT THUNDERHOOF and you’ve all been addicted to the album ever since… For those who did not yet get their fix… Well, we’re here…
Remi VL wrote back then on the June Doom Charts: “I was a little late to the S.T. party, having first heard them through their amazing split with Howling Giant a few years back. What I discovered was a classic metal inspired progressive stoner rock band carving out their own path amongst an ever growing crowd, standing out with killer dueling guitar work that is a mix of Iommi and Iron Maiden. Not every band can put together a near 70 minute album that doesn’t get stale, but I find myself just restarting this one over and over lately!”
Steve Rodger wrote: “I was listening to this in the car on the way home from work today really digging that huge soundscape just shaking my head and thinking ‘ this is fucking great ‘ !!”
Bucky Brown stated: “These lads continue to trample the realm of progressive space rock with valiant hook and candor. This Scepterd Veil is astonishing all on fronts. Beautiful composition, innate groove, and inexplicable melody. One of the few bands whose catalog is stacked with 5-star albums top to bottom. Even their logo and cover art is top of the class in the heavy underground.”
Frazer Jones said: “This is Sergeant Thunderhoof and if you have never heard these guys before then you REALLY need to check their back catalogue and then buy this. Quality guaranteed!”
Joop Konraad wrote: “… the new album This Sceptred Veil is meant for the ages, it’s one of those albums that will ring on forever and slowly turn Sergeant Thunderhoof into a legendary band. Or perhaps it already has. Opener You’ve Stolen The Words goes the way of gigantism; with its wide arcs and the vocals, which by the way have become even better on this album than on all those that came before. It grabs you entirely, pulls you closer to the abyss, has you dangling over and just whispers in your ear to enjoy the view. Which you will; even if there is unbelievable peril in your heart, it will also fluster it with glee for all you see and hear…”
Their own words:
“Psychedelic tinged heavy grooves from the mystical realms of Somerset in England.
Drawing on the ancient myths and legends of the South West of England, Sergeant Thunderhoof return with the colossal epic ‘This Sceptred Veil’. Recorded in their home town of Bath (UK) by Josh Gallop (Phoxjaw) and mastered by Tony Reed (Mos Generator), this new LP sees the band explore darker and denser territory than their previous albums.”
