FRIDAY FREEBIE – DUNE AURORA

DUNE AURORA – ICE AGE DESERT

The next Friday Freebie is for three Italian ladies from Turin. And album that was also released by Argonauta Records November 2025 and made that month’s edition. Rich Piva wrote some words about this wonderful debut by DUNE AURORA back then. And rightfull so for, their stoner-rock mystique has bloomed into a richer, heavier and daring sound. Riffs that stride with cool confidence, vocals that glide like silk over steel, and melodies shimmering with desert haze and vintage allure. From blues-tinged openers to regal, doom-kissed moments, the album unfolds like a frozen dreamscape warmed by hidden embers. Cohesive, atmospheric and boldly assured, Ice Age Desert invites you into a secret glittering sonic world…

Rich Piva (Musipedia of Metal, FuzzDoomRip, Rich & Turbo’s Heavy Half Hour) wrote: “The ladies of Italian band DUNE AURORA bring some nice and fuzzy heavy rock on their first full length record, Ice Age Desert. This is some seriously solid heavy and melodic stoner goodness that differentiates itself with killer, three part harmonies that live alongside all the riffs.  This trio gets both the heavy and the harmonies like a band that has been doing it for decades. DUNE AURORA brings it on their element-filled, excellent debut.”

Joop Konraad (Stoner HiVe) wrote: “And now, three years later, with the clutter pared down and their vision sharpened, they arrive glowingly at their debut full length release Ice Age Desert, which announces itself like a cold wind sweeping across a ballroom left open to the night. A sound that has grown heavier, richer and perhaps more daring. Riffs rolling in a steady deliberate force. Confidently strutting about the place and leaving the flashy solos for others. With vocals, floating clean and cool above the grit, like silk brushing softly against steel.  A brisk, blues-tinged flourish opens the album, ushering the listeners into a frozen dreamscape. Followed by a track filled with groove and raw swagger. And then comes Dune Chameleon, which slips in a sly familiar riff, echoing youthful rebellion beneath all the frost. Momentary flashes of doom might pop up here and there but are often swept to the side by something sharper. And then there’s Sunless Queen, which broods with a patient and regal menace.” (Read full review on Stoner HiVe!)

Their own words:

“DUNE AURORA deliver a powerful debut with Ice Age Desert, an album that blends heavy fuzz, hypnotic grooves and a dark grunge-tinged atmosphere into a deep and immersive sound. The trio moves effortlessly between crushing low-end riffs, shadowy melodic passages and a cinematic sense of tension that defines the entire record. Mastered by James Plotkin and shaped through a mix of stoner heaviness and moody psychedelic textures, Ice Age Desert stands as a compelling entry in the modern heavy rock landscape and a must-have for fans of vintage darkness and emotionally charged intensity.”

Recommended for listeners of Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats, Jess and the Ancient Ones, Acid King and Ruby the Hatchet.
