It’s the Fourth Friday of the Month, and yes, we have another Friday Freebie for you lovely folks out there. A band that managed to make two Doom Charts editions in a row. Which does not happen that often anymore. Released at the end of February 2025 it entered the February Doom Charts at Number 6! And was still clinging on at Number 38 when March 2025 was published. This has to mean the album has something special. And it does! We’re talking about RED EYE and their III album. Doom, doom and more doom. The metal kind, the stoner touched and always washing over you like a majestic wave of heaviness…
Or as Jacob ‘Reverend Fuzzcut’ Baker (CleanAndSoberStoner, Monster Riff) wrote back then: “RED EYE came out of absolutely nowhere and knocked me over the head with a bag of lead horseshoes when Scott Spiers (CleanAndSoberStoner) sent this to me in the closing minutes of February. I had already typed up our top albums of the month and was ready to submit, but had to make room for this masterpiece of psychedelic-influenced traditional doom. Folks, this is essential listening, plain and simple. I know it’s only February and we have ten months left jam packed with doomy goodness, but this record rustles my jimmies up all nice and tender the way my favorite albums of years past has, so I can confidently say this is an early album of the year candidate. Expect infectious, hip wiggling grooves of comic weight and sound production even multi-million dollar studios should be jealous of. I. Am. In. Awe. “
Ioannis Valiakos (Desert Vulture) said: “This album dooms like all doom albums should. But don’t let this fool you as the band crosses genres with a masterful ease, with overtones that range from the old school doom of Pentagram to the death metal sound of Obituary (check out Sagittarius A). Definitely one of the albums of the month, check it out today!”
Roberto Lucas (Denpa Fuzz) wrote: “A superb album full of megalithic riffs in which they explore the designs of doom to enrich it with a wide stylistic spectrum. Their heavy songs offer the listener a spiral of crushing riffs with notable psychedelic elements and a scent of the rawest rock of the 70s. Venerating traditional doom, the band’s sound has undergone a mutation in its dynamism, making it deeper and more intense.” Full review at DenpaFuzz.
Their own words: “Red Eye’s megalithic and profound riffs merge traditional doom with heavy, psych-infused tones, featuring both melodic and harsh vocals. Their debut album, ‘Tales from the Days of Yore’ (2019), laid the groundwork for their crushing sound, captivating audiences with deep, structured compositions and powerful live performances. With their second album, ‘The Cycle’ (2022), Red Eye ventured into conceptual storytelling, expanding their sonic palette while staying true to their roots. Now, with their third album, ‘III’ (2025), the Spanish band has evolved into a dynamic power trio, bringing a fresh intensity to their sound. This latest album accelerates the pace, exploring new sonic territories and pushing beyond their comfort zone, all while maintaining the relentless, heavy steamroller essence that defines Red Eye.”
