Phantom Druid – The Downward Slope
Holy crap? Another Friday Freebie? Third time is a charm? A doom charm! Cause, is there anything more Doom than a Phantom Druid? Sure, a Phantom Druid riding a skeleton horse down a Downward Slope; with lightning flashing in the background and huge black evil looking birds of prey circling overhead and an unearthly thunder rumbling … err… Sorry about that… But seriously, if you’ve heard earlier stuff from the man behind Phantom Druid, you know that this will doom! And it will doom a lot!
Phantom Druid started as a one-man project by Tjeerd de Jong, who you might also know from Stone In Egypt, Witchcult 71, Demon Lodge; his Off The Record Label or his Off The Record Recordstore. And well, released some damn fine stuff before now turning into a two-piece with drummer Bob Bagchus who used to play with Asphyx. And if you heard their earlier releases you know The Downward Slope will doom… Or as Shasta Beast once said: “Phantom Druid brings a crushing take on doom’s masters of old, bearing a weight of tone that justifies a double-take at the one-man roster, and a classic voice that was tailor made for the genre. Hats off to this lone vision of doom.” And that was when it was just one lone druid… Now it’s two! Double the doom on that!
