The Absurd are here to make America absurd again, as if things aren’t absurd enough already. However, their form of absurbness comes in the fashion of high octane rock and mutha fucking roll. They’ve been friends of the charts since their earlier releases and have kindly sent over some codes to expose their new one to the masses. It’s surely absurd, but in the end The Sun Still Rises a bit hotter after a set by this heavy outfit from Los Angeles. They’ve got a bunch of T-shirts and CDs over on their bandcamp page after you snag a free code to help support in these absurd times.

Welcome to Doom Charts, representing some of the finest bloggers, journalists, radio, podcasters and album reviewers from the heavy underground around the globe. Each month, our critics submit their picks for the best new doom, sludge metal, stoner-psychedelic and heavy rock albums. The results are compiled and tabulated into the chart below. This is a one-stop shop for the best new albums in the world…

The Absurd – The Sun Still Rises
(Hard Rock, Alternative, Garage, Stoner Rock)
(Los Angeles, California)
The album is a leap forward for the band’s sound, into dirtier, grimier territory. Recorded once again in a delirious haze punctuated by brief moments of lucidity, at Alice Cooper’s old Laurel Canyon mansion, the record is a psychedelic, thundering romp through Old Pappy’s record collection. Well… if Old Pappy was into riding motorcycles, drinkin’ beers, smokin’ weed, fighting with katana swords, & ricocheting through mosh pits full of hippies.
Yes, somehow in The Absurd’s frantic four-year rampage up and down the West Coast, and throughout the LA rock scene, they have assembled a remarkably diverse base of fans on both sides of the Atlantic. Ranging from stoner rock die-hards, classic rock nerds & doom heads to free lovin’ hippies, indie kids & uncompromising punks, their shows are a sight to behold for any rock fan nostalgic for the days when Eddie Vedder & David Yow used to plunge headfirst into a teeming mass of bodies.
