Halloween Special – Vitskär Süden

After the pandemic cut them off from their usual rehearsal venue, Los Angeles genre-hyphenates Vitskär Süden put together a garage studio to regain a bit of sanity and begin writing new material.

A recent live session found them veering deep into the weeds with an off-the-cuff rendition of a certain Halloween favorite, reimagined with a funereal bent and slightly more zombie-appropriate tempo.

“LA’s Vitskär Süden surprised the doom charts community earlier this year with their chilled out dark psych debut album. The album cover hinted at something menacing, and the end product delivered a mix of dark americana and psychedelic rock, playing like the soundtrack to a dystopian sci-fi movie by Jim Jarmusch.

In time for Halloween, Vitskär Süden has treated us with their reinvented, semi-improvised jam version of Michael Jackson’s Thriller. Slightly sloppy, but plodding along at an eerie pace, they create an entirely new mood from the horror-themed classic. One can only hope they find the time to release more of these down the road, or give this one a proper studio recording and release!”
