Only a handful of codes for this Friday Freebie, be quick of be dancing with the devil!

Bobby Rayfield (Monuments In Ruin) wrote for the DOOM CHARTS PERORATION – FEBRUARY 2024: “As the album launches with a full throttle, blackened assault, the listener prepares for war. Then the vocals appear with a punk rock venom. Before we realize it, the tempo and tone have again shifted to slower, chant like, call and response incantations. Cleansed by the darkened shadows of doom and post-punk, PONTE DEL DIAVOLO has been given the gift. In a time that feels difficult to deliver an original take on these multiple genres, they have managed to carve their unique craft directly from the heart of them all.”

Frazer Jones (Desert Psychlist) wrote: “Its all here, black metal, occult rock, post punk this album is virtually its own jukebox. Killer tunes!”

Their own words: “The band proposes a Doom/Black metal sound with old school roots, adding a modern and outside the box background. The female voice – with strong wave influences – is the lyric corpus of this strongly esoteric project. The presence of two basses creates the massive foundation for the rythmic guitar, everything marked by a raw and dynamic drumming. This creates the atmosphere of Ponte del Diavolo.

Ponte Del Diavolo bridges the gap between two separate worlds. After all, the band are named after the real “Bridge of the Devil”, a pointedly steep road that medieval peasants had to cross on their way to Italy.

Though formed out of a friendly jam session, the five members of Ponte Del Diavolo already made for quite the eclectic pairing when they officially banded together during the winter of 2020 in Turin, the finely cultivated Italian metropolis. Whereas most metal bands are spearheaded by dueling guitars, this one writhes on the slick-yet-scaly back of not one but two bassists.

Their debut album, Fire Blades from the Tomb, forges classic, cultish doom metal with modern bents of post-punk and dark wave. Lead single and opening track “Demone” is whipped along by a boiled black bassline. Heck, you could mistake Erba del Diavolo for Siouxsie Soux, the way she cooly flips between frantic talk-singing and bleak, seductive croons.

Cross over into the Italian dark arts with Ponte Del Diavolo.”
