“First off, find a Doom Charts who makes his sausages fresh. Fry up a mixture of onions and bacon and seasoning. Get the spuds on the boil with a dash of vinegar, some chopped onions and salt. Chuck in some peas with the spuds. (Throw in some chopped carrots too, if you like.) Now we’re talking. Now, you have a choice of grilling or broiling your bangers or frying. Throw them on low heat with the simmering bacon and onions and let the fuckers rock gently, turning every few minutes. Mash yer spuds and whatever. Bangers are now fat free (as possible!). Gravy if desired. HP sauce, every man to his own.”
~ possibly misread quote by Keith Richards

1020 Points
Classic Metal, Hard Rock, Doom, Stoner
Arkansas, USA
Self-released
Classic metal is the first tag under this fine album by DIREWOLF. It is the most accurate one too. Sure there are elements of doom, stoner, and hard rock that make this classic metal album one of the freshest I’ve heard in a while. Guitars – check. Vocals – check. Bass – check. Drums – check. It’s all there. Play it loud and enjoy!
~ Andy Kovalcik (Bandcamp-NYP-Hard&Heavy)
24. SPIN THE SKULL – SPIN THE SKULL / NEW!
1024 Points
Doom Metal, Garage, Punk, Psych, Rock’n’ Roll
Portugal
Morbid And Miserable Records, Saturn Eye Records
If you’re looking for a polished sound with beautiful synth layers and vocal harmonies, do not listen to SPIN THE SKULL. On this self-titled debut album, the Portuguese trio delivers particularly raw and brutal heavy rock. In their disturbed skulls, the guys mix infernal styles of Rock’n’Roll from violent hardcore punk to crushing doom metal on rather fast tempos. This results in a frantic ride through an inhospitable place where savagery, horror, torment and anger are the law. Will you survive? Try it (at your own risk).
~ Thierry “Pumpkin-T“ François (Metal Intégral)
23. GAWTHROP – KUBOA / NEW!
1309 Points
Sludge, Doom
South Korea
Sentient Ruin Laboratories
Seoul’s GAWTHROP have possibly dropped the Heaviest, most Filthy album I can ever recall. A crippling, rot-infested slab of seven shades of Misanthropy nailed to the back of Pure Decay. Absolute Filth at it’s finest!
~ Stevie Reek (Howls from The Hollows, Doomed & Stoned, Stoner HiVe)
22. GRUSOM – III
1345 Points
Seventies, Progressive, Psych, Hardrock
Svendborg, Denmark
Kozmik Artifactz
GRUSOM return, more talented than ever, with eight songs that will awaken those aging rockers who love the best sounds of vintage heavy rock and claim that music like it used to be no longer made. Because yes, this is music like it used to be, music with soul and power, wrapped in a fantasy tale. This vintage rock gem is accompanied by intricately crafted vocals that captivate you, wrapped in dreamy choruses and an aroma of legendary tales, seasoned with an irresistible pastoral organ. Well-crafted songs that create a connected story with sensational arrangements.
~ Roberto Lucas (Denpa Fuzz)
21. MARMALADE KNIVES – PARADIGM LOST / NEW!
1632 Points
Psychedelic, Progressive, Rock
Santa Cruz, California/Asheville, North Carolina
Electric Valley Records
MARMALADE KNIVES is a bicoastal psychedelic rock band from the U.S. who is known for their sound that is simultaneously amorphous and methodical. Their long-awaited sophomore album “Paradigm Lost” bears a noticeably heightened intensity and innovation from the band. On this release, MARMALADE KNIVES‘ progressive rhythm and structure materialize into spacier, more futuristic tones. The driving krautrock influence prevents these atmospheres from becoming too gossamer, soulful jazzy notes and peals of electric guitar embody passion, and waves of groovy proto metal provide a warm energy. “Paradigm Lost” is as riveting as it is hypnotic, synchronously providing the listener with both an infusion of vitality and a soothing mental getaway.
~ Stephanie Zalta (DoomCakes, Screaming From The Heavy Underground)
20. PARADISE LOST – ASCENSION / NEW!
1710 Points
Gothic Metal, Doom Metal
Halifax, West Yorkshire, England
Nuclear Blast
PARADISE LOST doesn’t need an introduction but the purpose of the mighty Doom Charts is to help people discover new (or new to them) bands. So if you’re unaware… PARADISE LOST are one of the legendary pillars of the metal community. Along with My Dying Bride and Anathema, they are one of the “Peaceville Three” that put doom metal out to the masses, including a huge influence on the Gothic scene as well. PARADISE LOST’s music has been quite dynamic over the years, even forgoing metal itself at one point. But over the years they have clawed their back to Gothic/Doom and never has it been more potent than on “Ascension.” Even if you don’t like the band, it’s impossible not to respect them for being over 30 years into their career and releasing an album of this quality. “Ascension,” provides an utterly fantastic overview of their entire career and I challenge any fan of the band to not find at least a handful of songs acceptable. From ballads, to death/doom, to Gothic, to good ol ‘heavy metal, “Ascension,” is an album that is perfect for long time fans and newcomers alike. Misery never sounded so good.
~ Justin Wittenmeier (DoomedForMetal)
19. COLTAINE – BRANDUNG / NEW!
1850 Points
Blackgaze, Post-Metal, Psych, Black-Metal,
Karlsruhe, Germany
Lay Bare Recordings
The band continues its journey into nebulous realms of atmospheric psychedelia, post-rock melancholy, and blackgaze intensity. With the skill to seamlessly weave together their seemingly incomplete songs, COLTAINE plunges us into the darkness, making us part of their personal vision of music. Delicate and transcendental, their ethereal vocals always emerge at the opportune moment in a constant whisper, interrupted only by the onslaught of post-metal and blackgaze with occasional guttural vocals. A complete sonic trance in a fluid narrative that plunges the listener into a disturbing yet placid twilight.
~ Roberto Lucas (Denpa Fuzz)
18. THE OIL BARONS – GRANDIOSE / NEW!
2144 Points
Western Heavy Psych
Los Angeles, California, USA
Self-released
Now and then, I hear an album at the end of the month that totally screws up the Doom Charts list I just wrote. That’s what THE OIL BARONS have done to me on Grandiose. It’s a psyched-out slab of Western Desert Stoner with a story. And their rendition of Morning Doom (Morning Dew) is confusing thousands of Dead Heads with a slight title change and actually playing and singing in tune.
~ Scott Spiers (CleanAndSoberStoner, Monster Riff)
17. DOOMSDAY PROFIT – DOOMSDAY PROFIT / NEW!
2552 Points
Sludge, Rock
Durham, North Carolina, USA
Self-released
DOOMSDAY PROFIT is a band creating music seemingly tailor-made for my tastes. On their self-titled sophomore full-length, expect the bite, snarl, and filth of sludge suffused with righteous stoner riffs and sheer punk rock angst. The majesty of this record lies in its dichotomous, yet harmonious nature – the aggression of the riffs add weight to the neck-snapping grooves in such a perfect allegory to yin and yang that I have to wonder if the effect wasn’t intentional. DOOMSDAY PROFIT is currently standing shoulder-to-shoulder with Beware of Gods’ and Hibernaut’s latest LP’s as one of my three favorite albums of the year! Dig it!
~ Jacob ‘Reverend Fuzzcut’ Baker (CleanAndSoberStoner, Monster Riff)
16. PIECE – RAMBLER’S AXE / NEW!
2743 Points
Doom, Sludge, Metal
Berlin, Germany
This Charming Man Records
This thing’s an almighty sludge-soaked “sledgeaxe“. PIECE (Berlin) throw down a filthy mix of gnarly riffs, stomping doom grooves, and raw hardcore energy. Imagine HIGH ON FIRE chain-smoking hell Lava with CROWBAR — that’s the vibe. The guitars are down-tuned and massive, dripping with fuzz but sharp where it counts. Drums are big and brutal without losing groove, and the vocals? Straight-up feral — part bark, part chant, all catharsis. There’s a stoner edge lurking underneath, but this ain’t laid-back desert rock — it’s war-ready, heavy as hell, and it feels dangerous. The whole album feels focused, pissed-off, and powerful — no filler, just one riff-crusher after the next. PIECE dial in that sweet spot between chaos and control. Light it up, let it burn.
~ Mel Lie (Sunday’s Heavy Tunes)
15. FAETOOTH – LABYRINTHINE / NEW!
2871 Points
Doom Gaze, Fairy Doom
Los Angeles, California, USA
The Flenser Records
With their 2nd full-length, the 3 ladies of American “fairy doom” band FAETOOTH officially entered the Premier League Of Doom as far as I’m concerned. Clean & harsh vox + great melodic heavy doom = a winning formula!
~ Rob Hammer (Rob Hammer, Doom/Stoner/Sludge/Psychedelic)
14. DUSTED ANGEL – THIS SIDE OF THE DIRT / NEW!
3240 Points
Grunge, Proto, Stoner, Punk
Los Angeles, California, USA
Heavy Psych Sounds
It is great to see a band like DUSTED ANGEL brush off from a lot of tough life stuff and continue with a passion project that they love. It is even more impressive that after 15 years, the songs on This Side Of The Dirt are so good. If you like the sludgy side of Black Flag, The Melvins, Jesus Lizard, 70s proto metal, with some melody lurking beneath the surface, you will really dig This Side Of The Dirt.
~ Rich Piva (Musipedia of Metal, FuzzDoomRip, Rich & Turbo’s Heavy Half Hour)
13. THE VINTAGE CARAVAN – PORTALS / NEW!
3432 Points
Psychedelic Rock, Stoner Rock, Classic Rock
Reykjavik, Iceland
Napalm Records
I think there is no need to introduce THE VINTAGE CARAVAN here. Since their early days, the band has developed an instantly identifiable style, along his five albums released to date. Wild riffs, captivating melodies and stunning vocals… They deploy the full stoner rock toolkit with tremendous talent. This remains true with their new album, Portals. And if like me, you love the band, you’ll be hooked from the first listen because we’re in familiar territory. But despite this, the band manages to never be repetitive or boring. On the contrary, they redouble their energy and generosity. And those who have seen them live once will know what I mean. Portals is a remarkable album that already ranks as an essential part of THE VINTAGE CARAVAN‘s discography.
~ Jay Baner (La Capsule Stoner)
12. SUPERCOLLIDER – SOUNDWAVES / NEW!
3874 Points
Stoner Rock
Esbjerg, Denmark
Self-released
Danish stoner rock trio SUPERCOLLIDER calls their sound “no fuss fuzzy stoner rock” and, while there is some truth to that, their music contains infinitely more dimension that their description gives them credit for. The band builds upon a base of coarse and massively fuzzy stoner/desert rock, loud enough to rattle your bones. In spite of its obvious weight, SUPERCOLLIDER‘S sound has a noticeable smoothness brought upon by wisps of psychedelia, atmospherically spacey tones, and echoing vocals and harmonies that communicate a sense of airy vastness floating over the dense foundation of gritty stoner. I can confidently say that fans of both the heaviest and lighter sides of the stoner rock spectrum, as well as everyone in between, will find themselves contentedly riding the “Soundwaves” of SUPERCOLLIDER‘s debut EP.
~ Stephanie Zalta (DoomCakes, Screaming From The Heavy Underground)
11. FISH HOOK SMILE – FISH HOOK SMILE / NEW!
3993 Points
Grunge, Alternative, Post Hardcore
St. Louis, Missouri, USA
Glory or Death Records
This St. Louis band grabbed me instantly from the first track. With Soundgarden-like riffs and terrific vocals, FISH HOOK SMILE will awaken any grunge thirsty desires. From start to finish this album keeps up the intensity and grooves. “Have I been here before” vocalist Jason Busiek wails during the first track – Flashback. Oh yeah, I have. FISH HOOK SMILE is aptly named. First, they reel you with in. Then they leave you grinning ear to ear.
~ Hugh Jones (The OG Metal Prophet, The Prophet’s Heavy Underground)
10. INSOMNIAC – OM MOKSHA RITAM / NEW!
4260 Points
Psych, Doom, Shoegaze, World
Atlanta, Georgia
Blues Funeral Recordings
This record is pure beauty, in a time when the band is mourning the loss of one of their founding members, Mike Morris, for which this project is dedicated to, INSOMNIAC‘s debut is a pure emotional trip that is all about atmosphere, swirling yet heavy guitars, awesome vocals that occasionally head in a more chanty direction, and post punk and Midwest emo vibes, all contained in a vessel, deemed “metatiative metal” by someone way more creative than me. If you like Craig Williamson’s more hypnotic and trippy stuff like Lamp Of The Universe, or want your shoegaze with more metal and spirit, or your psych to be a bit doomier and worldly, then check out Om Moksha Ritam. Do not sleep on INSOMNIAC. Rest in Peace Mike.
~ Rich Piva (Musipedia of Metal, FuzzDoomRip, Rich & Turbo’s Heavy Half Hour)
9. ELDER – LIMINALITY / DREAM STATE RETURN / NEW!
4970 Points
Psych, Stoner, Prog
Berlin, Germany
Stickman Records
Take the road less travelled through sonic soundscapes and floaty, dream state vibes that dance on the borders of heavy music. While it is clear that the undertones contained are very monstrous, the overall vibe delivers a delicate warmth that wraps the listener in color and texture. Add a few ripping guitar attacks here and there to accent the tone for good measure.
~ Bobby Rayfield (Monuments In Ruin, Inherent Records, Mystery Pick)
8. BLACK MOON CULT – OPHIDIAN FUTURE (THE CHILDREN OF YIG)
5792 Points
Stoner, Psych, Doom
Toledo, Ohio
Black Doomba Records
As a young band, BLACK MOON CULT sure know how to bring the psych drenched stoner rock to the parishioners who worship their chosen deity, with the delivery vessel of choice being their debut record, Ophidian Future (The Children of Yig). Getting Tony Reed to mix and master said vessel certainly helps their cause as well. Kaleb Riser is the next guitar virtuoso, and along with the rest of the trio have the youth and enthusiasm to make even the most curmudgeon listener confirm, for sure, that rock is not, in fact, dead.
~ Rich Piva (Musipedia of Metal, FuzzDoomRip, Rich & Turbo’s Heavy Half Hour)
7. CARSON – WHEN GODS KNOW WHY / NEW!
6352 Points
Stoner Rock, Alternative Rock
Lucerne, Switzerland
Sixteentimes Music
CARSON is a Swiss stoner/alternative trio known for their ultra-immersive, energetic sound that dances with emotionally raw and relatable lyrics. Their third full-length album, “When Gods Know Why“, is their most vibrant yet, leaning harder into the alternative rock energy the band is known for. However, the scenes do flicker between these live wire jams and moodier, darker sentiments, often within the same song. Regardless of temper, each and every track is fortified by CARSON‘S trademark wall of sound, a bulwark that frequently pulsates with fervid bursts of intensity that beautifully underline the band’s unfettered emotional expressiveness.
~ Stephanie Zalta (DoomCakes, Screaming From The Heavy Underground)
6. APPALOOZA – THE EMPEROR OF LOSS / NEW!
11740 Points
Stoner Rock, Heavy Rock
Brittany, France
Ripple Music
APPALOOZA, the fiery horse of French stoner, returns with this excellent fourth album: The Emperor Of Loss. Once again, it’s a real pleasure to hear the electric storm of Wild Horse’s guitar, the pounding of the drums, and the rumbling thunder of the low-tuned bass. The music breathes the air of vast natural landscapes. Sometimes the primitive rhythms sound like cavalcades, sometimes the hammering of the percussion is much heavier, but in all cases the songs retain a melodic heart notably maintained by the strong vocal lines. Adding to the musical work is the splendid artwork created by Wild Horse for an album that is both beautiful and so good.
~ Thierry “Pumpkin-T“ François (Metal Intégral)
5. COSMIC REAPER – BLEED THE WICKED, DROWN THE DAMNED / NEW!
14976 Points
Doom, Stoner, Metal
Charlotte, North Carolina, USA
Heavy Psych Sounds
If you’ve been craving some delectable cosmic doom, COSMIC REAPER delivers a heavy slice of just that on Bleed the Wicked, Drown the Damned. I hesitate to make comparisons, because every band has their own identity, but I can’t help but hear some similarities to fellow label-mates Acid Mammoth and that of course is a compliment! COSMIC REAPER brings a meditative, crushingly slow and heavy doom that is accompanied by the sorrowfulness and emotional weight of the genre. This is further accentuated by clean vocals that take command over the arrangements, guiding us through the inferno and the nine circles of hell.
~ Jon McGough (Stoner Rock Army, Stoner HiVe, Outlaws Of The Sun)
4. STONED JESUS – SONGS TO SUN / NEW!
16340 Points
Stoner, Progressive, Rock
Kyiv, Ukraine
Season of Mist
STONED JESUS return with perhaps their most ambitious and creative release to date, carefully crafting songs with intention and meaning across the album Songs to Sun. The attention to details doesn’t go unnoticed, nor do the heartfelt sentiments and emotions conveyed throughout. The layering and production compliment the progressive approach, elevating an already impressive album into the stratosphere. If Songs to Sun isn’t prolific enough, the band has announced that it’s the first in a trilogy, with two more albums in the pipeline. Now that’s something to be excited about!
~ Jon McGough (Stoner Rock Army, Stoner HiVe, Outlaws Of The Sun)
3. CASTLE RAT – THE BESTIARY / NEW!
20540 Points
Doom Metal, Heavy Metal, Epic Metal, Medieval, Fantasy
Brooklyn, NY, USA
King Volume Records / Blues Funeral Recordings
The epic and originally strange Medieval Fantasy Heavy Metal band CASTLE RAT is back with a second record. 17 months after their first, super well acclaimed release, Into The Realm, the Brooklyn sensation is back with The Bestiary. We still find their style : Swords, unicorns and medieval costumes for a terrific experience. About their sound? A bit of hard rock, a twist of heavy metal (NWOBHM), some mighty Sabbathish riffs and the one and only voice from The Rat Queen. The record is, in my opinion, as good as the first one, minus the surprise of discovering their universe. The riffs are loud and heavy, the drums is thundering and the voice comes from the depth of hell. It’s more heavy metal and less doom than the first record. But it’s still a must-have. Hail to The Rat Queen!
~ Édouard Dubuisson (Les chroniques d’Eddy, MetalUniverse)
2. SLOMATICS – ATOMICULT / NEW!
26190 Points
Doom, Space Rock, Cosmic Sludge
Belfast , Ireland
Majestic Mountain Records
SLOMATICS these fine gentlemens from the heart of Belfast ,the city of steel and storms, heavy as stone yet reaching for the cosmos! SLOMATICS summon riffs like stone hammers against the earth, carving monuments of sound that feel both ancient and interstellar. Their doom is seismic, vibrating through bone and sky alike. Few bands capture the sensation of staring into infinity while being crushed beneath it.
~ Svempa ‘Doomsday Jesus’ Alveving (Cries From The Underworld)
1. WARCOE – UPON TALL THRONES / NEW!
27776 Points
Doom Metal, Heavy Metal, Stoner
Pesaro, Italy
Ripple Music
It’s always a real pleasure to follow and support a band from its very beginnings. You witness its progress, its evolution, and sometimes even its shifts in direction, all in real time… This is the case for me with WARCOE from Pesaro Italy, who have just released their third album, “Upon Tall Thrones,” since their beginning in 2021. In my opinion, it’s a crucial album in a band’s career, which should be the one of maturity. And that’s exactly what “Upon Tall Thrones” is. The songwriting is solid, even down to the smallest details—where, as they say, the devil hides. This bodes well for an occult doom metal album. While the Black Sabbath influence is still clearly present, it has now been skillfully integrated, and the band has fully developed the unique identity it has been cultivating so successfully since its beginnings. The album is more incisive and darker than its predecessors, yet also more balanced and sensitive. The artwork itself reflects this, further reinforcing the band’s identity: clearer and more narrative than previous releases, it truly reflects the musical content of the album. With “Upon Tall Thrones,” WARCOE proves that they are now a band fully in control of their faculties, while embracing their influences. They manage better than any other band to transport us back to the beginning, and these days, that’s something truly valuable.
~ Jay Baner (La Capsule Stoner)
WARCOE‘S earliest work won us over with its perfect balance of doom and heavy metal. Their sophomore album “A Place for Demons” went on to pique our interest by waxing more acidic, leaning into trippier occult and psychedelic tones. On their latest album “Upon Tall Thrones“, WARCOE continues to draw upon these sounds, playing them louder and with more energy than ever. The band also uses their proto metal influence to break up some of the more dismal or serious auras brought about by the weightiness of doom, while also incorporating some well-developed instrumental interludes. This adds a very noticeable amount of dimension to WARCOE‘S sound and naturally sharpens their storytelling ability. The scenes the band builds are more vivid than ever, and a captivating saga bursts through the album with striking clarity. It’s safe to say that these developments make “Upon Tall Thrones” WARCOE‘S most heavy hitting yet, a release on which both sound and substance are bigger and bolder than ever before.
~ Stephanie Zalta (DoomCakes, Screaming From The Heavy Underground)
The third WARCOE record lives up to the self-created hype they got for releasing such a killer second album that did so well on these Charts in 2023. Upon Tall Thrones is their best, most fully realized, most diverse, and best sounding record so far. This band has just gotten better and better in just a short period of a couple years. Upon Tall Thrones is a must listen for all doom aficionados out there today, Some truly killer stoner doom that flat out rocks.
