Their own words: “VAST PYRE emerged in late 2021, founded by Försti (guitar) and Wally (drums, vocals) with a shared passion for heavy, immersive sounds inspired by genre titans like Electric Wizard, Black Sabbath, and Sleep. Their initial jam sessions quickly evolved into a focused effort to craft original music, honing a unique sound that melded the raw essence of Stoner/Doom with a minimalist ethos: no bass guitar, just the pure power of guitar-driven compositions. As the band experimented and refined their approach, their rehearsal space became a sonic laboratory. They built an impressive backline to add depth and low-end to their guitar tones, creating a massive, distinctive sound. By late 2022, lead guitarist Jonny joined the lineup, bringing new dynamics and enabling the band to rearrange and fine-tune their growing catalog of songs. In August 2023, VAST PYRE made their live debut at the Burgbrand Open Air Festival, sharing the stage with acclaimed acts such as EREMIT and INDIAN NIGHTMARE. This powerful introduction to the live scene was followed by a period of creative focus, as the band dedicated the rest of the year to recording their debut album. The recording process, spanning from November 2023 to February 2024, culminated in a collection of songs that captured their crushing sound and unrelenting vision. Following the recording sessions, Jonny departed for personal reasons, prompting VAST PYRE to continue as a two-piece for a time. Their self-titled debut album marked a significant milestone, earning attention for its innovative approach to the Stoner/Doom genre. By the end of 2024, VAST PYRE expanded their lineup with the addition of Izzy on bass guitar, opening a new chapter in their evolution. With a formidable sound and growing momentum, VAST PYRE is set to leave their mark on the heavy music scene.”
