FESTIVE FREEBIE – WORMSAND

WORMSAND – YOU, THE KING

A Festive Freebie for the new WORMSAND! It arrived in November through that lovely Mrs Red Sound label, the new WORMSAND album YOU, THE KING. It jumped to the Number 7 spot of that months Doom Charts and many of the Contributors love it to bits…

Stephanie Zalta (DoomCakes, Screaming From The Heavy Underground) said: “You, The King is the second full-length album from  grunge-tinted sludgy doomlords WORMSAND. The layered and sophisticated tracks boast a foundation of viscous sludge, and while there are hints of grunge influence, I hear much more in common with classic heavy metal, progressive metal, and traditional doom. Powerful, ultra-melodic vocals occasionally trade off with sludge metal growls inside a seemingly impenetrable fortress of sound. Delicate notes of doom-laden psychedelia do slip through the cracks, but instead of placating, they build apprehension, rising like an eerie mist. Strong contrasts in intensity, buzzing riffage, and impressive vocals add even more dimension to a sound that could be described, in a word, as “epic”.”

Jon McGough (Stoner Rock Army, Stoner HiVe, Outlaws Of The Sun) wrote: “In a world where there can be a lot of the same, WORMSAND are certainly an exception. It’s amazing how the band can take the genres and completely put their own twist on it. It’s the type of album I search for, something fresh and new. The heavy stoner doom riffs have a thick distortion and an unconventional timing to them that are fascinating. They are also complex in nature, as the guitar rarely (if ever) settles on just power chords, instead walking progressions of notes through the fuzz. The psych moments are equally breathtaking, bridging gaps between the heavy, adding an extra layer to an already uniquely impressive sound. The vocals alternate from a melodic clean to a monstrous harsh bringing contrast and further character to ‘You, The King’. The end result is a creative and sometimes dark atmospheric album that will most certainly satisfy.”

Frazer Jones (Desert Psychlist) said: “An utterly absorbing mix of caustic musical murkiness and vocal cleanliness.”

PR words: “From the very first notes ‘You, The King’ dearly plunges into darkness, confidently bouncing between sludge and grunge. Almost initiatory, the album is brimming with good ideas that underline the magnificent and dramatic decline of the king. The fearless rhythm section crafts a truly breathless climax where each second of the eight tracks disturbs, impresses or thrills.  raef of Psychonaut on vocals on “The Great Hour”. ”

Their own words: “Stoner/Sludge band formed in Menton in 2018 by Julien Coppo, Clément Mozzone and Tom Valstar. The band has quickly laid down the characteristics of their sound: massive slow rhythms, interspersed with more ethereal moments backed by singing alternating between the harsh vocals of Julien, and the more aerial ones of Clément.”
