Rich Piva (Musipedia of Metal, FuzzDoomRip) wrote back then: “This could wind up being the best all in release that Olde Magick has put out, because SONIC MOON’s debut is a must listen for fans of anything fuzzy, desert-like, or trippy doom. Don’t expect to rock your socks off but do get ready for some heady angry slow burn goodness. Anger and urgency can still be felt without playing at breakneck speed or louder than everybody else. Slow, fuzzy, and raw in all the best ways.”
Reek of STOOM (Howls from The Hollows, Doomed&Stoned, Stoner HiVe) stated: “Heavier than Jovian gravity and slower than the tectonic plates on an inert moon – corrosive Doom!”
Frazer Jones (Desert Psychlist) said: “Excellent release from from these Danish groovers, touches of QOTSA type desert quirkiness married to elements of hard rock and doom.”
Joop Konraad (Stoner HiVe) wrote: “A slow burning, grunge and fuzz toned doom trucker. Which only speeds up measurably on a few tracks. Especially on that third track, Give It Time, the driving motion gives it a powerful, forward pushing groove. But a lot of the other tracks do much more haze rocking, making the dance turn into dreams and hallucinations. Perfectly named opener The Waters already had it going on, the entire composition, rhythm, and guitar lines, feeling like a rippling of open water, causing reverie and a lightheaded trance, even though there is a doom trod, it still feels so weightless.” Read more on Stoner HiVe!
Their own words: “Sonic Moon is the sound of Kevin Starrs meeting Josh Homme on an acid trip in the dark Scandinavian winter. It is heavy guitar-riffs, drowned in fuzz and delay, carried through by a swaying drum- and bass-section, complimented by a raw and melodic vocal. The lyrics consume the remaining light, and touches subjects like nihilism, sorrow and anger.”
