ASTRONOMIE – INTERSTELLAR NOMAD
Another Friday Freebie! Most of the Contributors had expected this album to make the regular September Edition of the Doom Charts, but September as you know, was packed with amazing releases. And INTERSTELLAR NOMAD by ASTRONOMIE only barely missed out on making the final Forty by ending up on Forty-Six. Frazer Jones had already written a blurb, which then ofcourse ended up on the September Peroration Edition: “Excellent space themed doom from Australia that swirls and crunches in equal measure, you can hear influences in the seven songs that inhabit this release ranging from the obvious Hawkwind right through to current space cowboys like YURT and Elder.”
Reek of STOOM (Howls from The Hollows, Doomed&Stoned, Stoner HiVe) said: “Spacerd-out Psychedelic /Doom crossover with a nod to Hawkwind here and there…Really tasty!”
Frazer Jones (Desert Psychlist) wrote some more: “Excellent spacious doom, heavy ass-kicking riffs, powerful rhythms and vocals that are a mix of monotonic lead and soaring harmonies.” And much more on Desert Psychlist!
Justin Wittenmeier (Metal Temple, DoomedForMetal) wrote: “The album opens with ‘The Infinite‘ and light, quiet tones that last only a moment before the riffs drop like bombs. I immediately began headbanging—this is a common factor with the album as a whole. It rocks so hard, you’ll need a chiropractor by the end of it. This song is slow to mid paced—just how doom of this style should be. The whole ride is just groovy and catchy. The chorus is really amazing too!” And much more on DoomedForMetal!!
Their own words: “Astronomie was formed in the Doom Den April 2017, when Bean and Kenny Slessor conspired to make some slow and heavy music, inspired by sci-fi and driven by fuzz. Assembling a crew of like-minded musicians, the end result is Interstellar Nomad, a debut album of sublime heaviness showcased by Bean’s Wall of Doom production, James’ layered vocals and Glen’s soulful guitar solos.”
