The Lunar Effect – Calm Before the Calm
Hot off their debut appearance on the January Doom Chart coming in at #9 slot, The Lunar Effect have decided to donate a grip of bandcamp codes to you the fans. This band is sweeping the attention of the contributors so far this year with its heavy grooving blues rock. Many folks have mentioned the similarities to the classic bands of the 70’s when describing The Lunar Effect. At first glance I thought I was getting into some post-rock or space metal type thing just based on the band name and album cover, but that’s quite far from the truth. See what several of our team members had to say about the album right on their bandcamp page.
“Channeling The Doors, some Zeppelin… a smidge of Soundgarden… Honing in on everything I get off on in music. This is one of those albums that will sound just as good 20 years from now as it does tonight.” ~Adam Walsh (Ear Munchies)
“This is 100% authentic modern heavy blues with slight traces of influence from the classic rockers of yesteryear. Not since Lord Vapour gave us ‘Semuta’ have I heard an album this paralyzingly shocking and righteously heavy as Calm Before the Calm and that was just a couple months ago. How bout that bass!!!! Tone for daze!!! The vocals? Astonishing! I’m in love!” ~Bucky Brown (The Ripple Effect)
