Well… Below, we feature 25 amazing albums straight out of the heavy underground. All worth every minute of your time. On the header image though, only 24 are featured. What?! Well.. Find out what album is missing, and then send us an email or a PM on the Doom Charts Facebook page through with the solution. The first ten to send an email or message will get a bandcamp code for that album! Happy hunting and listening!
The following are professions of love and adoration by Doom Charts Contributors for albums they could not stop spinning. Each month, the Doom Charts critics submit their picks for the best new doom, sludge, metal, stoner, psychedelic and other sorts of heavy rock and metal albums. The results are compiled and tabulated into the chart which is published on the First Friday of the new month. ABRONIA – SHAPES UNRAVEL
Psychedelic Rock, Experimental, Desert
Portland, Oregon, USA
Cardinal Fuzz / Feeding Tube
Some bands have such a distinctive sound that the intense listening experience they provide is impossible to forget. ABRONIA, a Portland-based group, is one such band. That’s why the announcement of a new EP revived my enthusiasm. Their subtle experimental blend of jazz, folk, and Americana notes on a solid psychedelic rock foundation won me over with their LP Map of Dawn, which was in my top 20 albums of 2022. I’m therefore thrilled to rediscover them with Shapes Unravel, which, although it’s still too early to say for sure, could well follow in the footsteps of its predecessor. And, as expected, it doesn’t disappoint! From the very first notes, we find ourselves in familiar desert territory. However, it soon becomes apparent that the audacity has been turned up a notch. In particular, the ritualistic aspect takes on a new dimension with a whole range of western sounds and melodies, already present a little on Map of Dawn but which here become the backbone of this remarkable new album.

BIG OAF – WHOLE MILK
Stoner, Doom, Metal
Atlanta, GA, USA
Self-released
Atlanta has a terrific heavy underground scene and one of the gems among them is BIG OAF. This heavy 3 piece outfit released an impressive self-titled debut in 2020, and I’ve been patiently waiting since. Well, the time has finally come for album number 2 in WHOLE MILK. You get a bunch of genres molded together here. Stoner and doom are thoroughly represented along with some sludge, prog and some throwbacks to old school metal. 9 memorable tracks with nice stoner laden riffs, thumping bass lines and percussion, complimented with coarse but understandable vocals. You’ll find your head easily nodding along throughout to some deep grooves. Make no mistake this band comes at you heavy with an unapologetic mission to kick your ass. Mission accomplished!
~ Hugh Jones (The OG Metal Prophet, The Prophet’s Heavy Underground)
BLACK TOASTER – ASTROBIRD
Stoner Rock, Heavy Rock
Bern, Switzerland
Self-released
Black Toaster is a power trio out of Bern, Switzerland that states they sound like an old jean jacket and that is fitting because their music is a shining example of blue collar music. A driving force of sound that will make you move. Need exercise music, need to wake up, need to drive fast you will find their album Astrobird is what one needs to accompany those ventures. The album even comes complete with a doom punk homage to Elvis Presley, thank you very much. Miss your old jean jacket but not the stale beer and cigarette smell BLACK TOASTER‘s Astrobird will fit you fine.
~ Turbo (Rich & Turbo’s Heavy Half Hour)
On their latest EP “Astrobird“, Swiss stoner/heavy rockers BLACK TOASTER deliver their most sophisticated sound to date. The band’s increased focus on heavy rock creates a timeless, warm atmosphere that’s beautifully emphasized by their analog production. Meanwhile, vibrant alternative rock gives the EP a modern and catchy brightness, while punk and stoner rock deliver a characteristic gritty soundscape. Perhaps best of all, these styles effortlessly bleed into each other and combine so seamlessly that they’re often hard to pick apart – the mark of a well-rounded signature sound that BLACK TOASTER has truly made their own.
~ Stephanie Zalta (DoomCakes, Screaming From The Heavy Underground)
After a few notable EPs, BLACK TOASTER kicks out a fresh set of jams on their first full-length album with Astrobird, a high-octane blast of stoner rock with a slight punk edge. Chunky, rumbling bass lines lock in tight with steady, driving drums that propel each track forward, while fuzzed-out guitars rip through each track with explosive energy. Packed with addictive hooks full of momentum, this is the kind of album made for barreling down the freeway at reckless speeds. You may find yourself with a speeding ticket if you’re not careful!
~ Jon McGough (Stoner Rock Army, Stoner HiVe, Outlaws Of The Sun)
DIRTY DWARFS – DIRTY DWARFS
Hard Rock, Stoner, Psych, Heavy Blues
Bamberg, Bavaria, Germany
Shoyfella Records
Like an accidental find crate-digging through an obscure roadside shop, this album seemed to appear from nowhere. I was intrigued immediately, and then after recognizing the vocals it piqued my interest even further. Michael Binder and Florian Thiele of Paralyzed teamed up with Andreas Kodel for this project, creating a fun, jam-oriented record with an authentic, lively feel. The songs aren’t overly polished, they’re in the moment, carrying a substantial weight of fuzz and groove, with just the right amount of heavy blues. Sometimes an accidental find can become a cherished favorite of a collection, and this album is just that.
~ Jon McGough (Stoner Rock Army, Stoner HiVe, Outlaws Of The Sun)
DRUID STONE – THE LIVING DEAD
Doom Metal, Stoner, Psychedelic Rock
Herndon, Virginia, USA
Self-released
DRUID STONE is a solo project by Demeter Capsalis that is being described by the artist herself as Trans Doom Metal. But that moniker doesn’t entire fit the bill. At the core this is high energy doom and stoner with a distant occult edge, wandering off into softer territory on multiple occasions where psychedelic rock and pop come to the forefront. But whichever path is chosen, there’s always an intensity that is hard to put into words, as even in the softer songs there are different angles being used and little things to discover. This is one hell of a spellbinding album.
~ Ronny Dijksterhuis (Stoner HiVe)
EARTH TONGUE – DUNGEON VISION
Heavy Psych
Wellington, New-Zealand (currently : Berlin, Germany)
In The Red Records
Aukland’s dynamic duo EARTH TONGUE return to the airwaves with “Dungeon Vision“, bringing their trademark crisp, heavy fuzz guitars, lilting, harmonic vocals and crushing percussion to the max over 12 tracks. On song and on point!
~ Stevie Reek aka Steve De Rique (Howls from The Hollows, Doomed & Stoned, Stoner HiVe)
EVIG NATT – VAKETIMEN
Gothic, Doom, Black, Death, Metal
Karmøy, Rogaland, Norway
WormHoleDeath Records
Their sound is both visceral and cerebral. I’m a sucker for metal, especially anything under the doom pantheon, that is comfortable living in worlds that are beautiful and dark —this album nails this niche. It is also the first album I’ve heard from the band—color me surprised and also dumb for not having them on my radar before now. “Vaketimen,” is a dynamic album, ebbing and flowing between tempos and even vocal styles. The cleans from Kirsten Jørgensen are lithe, expressive, and breathtaking. There is a moment of her presence where she isn’t engaging and emotional. Bassist/keyboardist Stein Roger Sund also provides the extreme vocals and (I’m assuming this is him) and cleans as well. Together, the two of them display a theatrical approach to the genre—and an infectious one at that.
~ Justin Wittenmeier (DoomedForMetal)
FÁTIMA – PRIMAL
Doom Metal , Fuzz Rock
Paris, France
Black Robes Records
Parisian grungy doom rockers FÁTIMA are back with “Primal“, their fifth album and the final chapter in “The Monsters Trilogy”. Here, FÁTIMA adds a plethora of dimension to their signature blend of doom, grunge, and psychedelic rock adorned with intricate Eastern influences. The band also experiments with incorporating some post-punk tones into their music, a fusion that fits in seamlessly while adding discernible moods throughout the album. In keeping up with the “monsters” motif, FÁTIMA fashioned an imposing Sasquatch/Kong creature to grace the cover of “Primal” and utilized an ice age/prehistoric theme throughout. For me, this is representative of the base carnal instincts and darkness that exist within us all… We’re not quite as sophisticated as we think, and that’s ok.
~ Stephanie Zalta (DoomCakes, Screaming From The Heavy Underground)
FROM YUGGOTH – AND EVER SINCE MY PATHS WERE CROOKED AND FORSAKEN
Doom
Dresden, Germany
Self-released
FROM YUGGOTH is a doom metal trio from Dresden whose colossal sound is beginning to make some seismic waves here in the stoner/doom underground. The band employs a dense and rumbling brand of doom as their base, a foundation they adorn with epic fantasy. Their repetitive structures are utterly trance-inducing, but the jarring intensity of the band’s cataclysmal eruptions keep the listener on their toes. Named for a Lovecraftian planet, FROM YUGGOTH‘S formidable sound is made especially unique by an understated but discernible infusion of spaciness. You can get lost in the intoxicating heaviness on FROM YUGGOTH‘S latest album, “and ever since my paths were crooked and forsaken“.
~ Stephanie Zalta (DoomCakes, Screaming From The Heavy Underground)
IT IT ANITA – HI HI HA HA
Noise Rock, Alternative Rock
Liège, Belgium
Vicious Circle Records
If you – on occasion – like to listen to music that doesn’t necessarily fit the assumed Doom Charts bill, I highly recommend checking out IT IT ANITA‘s new album ‘HI HI HA HA‘. Heavy noise rock combined with alternative rock in the vein of dEUS. As an added bonus they – like lots of good Belgian bands – dare to colour outside the box without losing any of its accessibility.
~ Ronny Dijksterhuis (Stoner HiVe)
INDIA TIGERS IN TEXAS – DOSE
Psychedelic Rock, Heavy Psych, Alternative Rock
Galveston, TX, USA
Geodesic Records
Taking influences from sixties heavy psych and psychedelic rock while on a casual stroll through modern alternative rock with a fresh breeze of Psychedelic Porn Crumpets, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard and Motorpsycho coming in, INDIA TIGERS IN TEXAS deliver a sophomore album that oozes quality.
~ Ronny Dijksterhuis (Stoner HiVe)
KRÖWNN – SANTA SOMNIA
Doom, Metal
Venice, Italy
Subsound Records
KRÖWNN has been releasing music since 2013, establishing a signature sound rooted in “dark fantasy doom” with stoner metal and heavy psych influences. Heavily inspired by fantasy movies and novels, art, and even video games, KRÖWNN‘S albums are always bewitchingly conceptual and unfailingly epic. For their fourth album “Santa Somnia“, KRÖWNN adds some well-placed classic and thrash metal influences to their music, along with a few punky moments. This of course only adds even more depth to the band’s already immersive brand of storytelling and creates an even heavier, tougher sound.
~ Stephanie Zalta (DoomCakes, Screaming From The Heavy Underground)
HÄLLAS – PANORAMA
Progressive, Seventies, Eighties, Adventure Rock
Jönköping, Sweden
Aventyr Records
Trumpets blare from the battlements as the castle gate swings open onto the moat, inviting us on an epic journey of fantasy and ancient medieval legends with ‘PANORAMA,’ the new album from the Swedish band HÄLLAS. While their previous album struck me as somewhat stagnant, with a rather uninspiring sound, they now surprise me with their most experimental and progressive work to date. With a song clocking in at over twenty-one minutes, they banish the doubts that had haunted me about the band recently. It’s old-school progressive hard rock with a myriad of compositional resources to ensure nothing feels mundane. The quintet’s fantastical world unfolds with a greater presence of keyboards in a grand progressive adventure. Mystical, epic, and with a distinctly vintage feel, these guys are forging their own genre. Without a doubt, it is the band’s most complex work, a collision of influences ranging from GENESIS, RUSH, YES, OPETH and so many other greats of 70s progressive rock.

L’IRA DEL BACCANO – THE PRAISE OF FOLLY
Prog, Psych, Instrumental, Space Rock
Rome, Italy
Subsound Records
Self-described “doomdelic instrumental space prog rockers” L’IRA DEL BACCANO are back with their latest sonic narrative: “The Praise of Folly“. Here, the quartet continues to deliver their trademark blend of stoner rock, psychedelic rock, prog, space rock, and doom. “The Praise of Folly” is composed of four tracks, each of which unfurls slowly and ethereally, that is, until it inevitably encounters a fierce bout with the weighty tones of doom. My favorite thing about the album (and about L’IRA DEL BACCANO as a band), is their ability to approach heavier music with a sense of delicacy – taking great care to include soft nuances, complex intricacies, and my personal favorite: captivating spacey moments that add rich details to their well-rounded soundscapes.
~ Stephanie Zalta (DoomCakes, Screaming From The Heavy Underground)
Imagine an instrumental cocktail blending Rush, Pink Floyd, King Buffalo and Clouds Taste Satanic, you’ll get an idea of the L’IRA DEL BACCANO’s sound. On The Praise Of Folly, the themes range from beautifully crafted melodic atmospheres to heavy Iommi-esque riffs, passing through epic fervor or, conversely, introspective passages. One thing is certain: the musical journey isn’t a crossing of dreary plains but rather a mountain road where each turn reveals a new and often unexpected landscape. Here’s a serious contender for the instrumental AOTY!
~ Thierry “Pumpkin-T“ François (Metal Intégral)
MIENTRAS LAS ABEJAS DUERMEN – MLAD
Heavy Psych, Stoner
Cádiz, Spain
Estudio Mazmorra / Kozmik Artifactz
MIENTRAS LAS ABEJAS DUERMEN is a world-class band whose style is halfway between Heavy Prog and Desert Psych Rock. In the purest Desert Rock tradition, the long and hypnotic instrumental jams obviously originate from improvisation sessions. Fans of introspective melodies delivered with a clear and dynamic sound will not believe their ears. What an incredible surprise from the Cádiz mountains (Andalusia, Spain) – MLAD is a debut album and a true banger!
~ Thierry “Pumpkin-T“ François (Metal Intégral)
In the sun-baked hills of Cádiz, a secret hums beneath the dust. MIENTRAS LAS ABEJAS DUERMEN emerge as wandering alchemists, their debut unfolding like a map long hidden. What began with El Camino Silencioso now reveals a vast sonic landscape, each track a step along a path both ancient and instinctive. Hypnotic grooves give way to towering, doom-laden surges, riffs echoing like hoofbeats across forgotten ruins. Psychedelic mirages and sudden progressive turns guide the journey, while Andalusian warmth glows through the Cruz passages. This is more than an album, it’s a living path, a mystery in sound, leading each listener… somewhere… and only where they are meant to go…
~ Joop Konraad (Stoner HiVe)
MOTORPSYCHO – THE GAIA II SPACE CORPS
Alternative Rock, Progressive Rock
Trondheim, Norway
Det Nordenfjeldske Grammofonselskab
Nearly a year to the day after the release of their monumental self-titled album, Norwegian progressive chameleons MOTORPSYCHO are back with yet another stellar collection of spellbinding tracks: “The Gaia II Space Corps“. While last year’s album clearly marked a new beginning for the band, featuring a wide variety of styles and moods delivered in a noticeably expressive manner, “The Gaia II Space Corps” feels a bit less personal. By that, I simply mean that this album sticks much closer to its conceptual framework, never straying far from its retro space epic theme. MOTORPSYCHO also adheres mostly to a 70s heavy rock-infused style of prog this time around, filling the vibe to the brim with retro groove. True to form, the band’s cinematics and stylistic nuances remain razor sharp, relaying a vivid and fast-paced tale that only taps the brakes for two dreamlike interludes that serve to illustrate pivotal moments in the story. In a nutshell: “The Gaia II Space Corps” is MOTORPSYCHO Theater at its finest.
~ Stephanie Zalta (DoomCakes, Screaming From The Heavy Underground)
This is the kind of album I live for, anything with a retro sound and feel instantly gets me excited. MOTORPSYCHO have delivered just that. The Gaia II: Space Corps carries a vintage sensibility; the production screams 70’s, a warm fuzzy tone embraces you, and there’s a comfortable familiarity for us classic rock fans. The songs themselves keep you glued, bouncing from prog-filled epics to moments that feel almost like a lost 70’s gem. Hypnotic, engaging, and essential, this is one you don’t want to miss.
~ Jon McGough (Stoner Rock Army, Stoner HiVe, Outlaws Of The Sun)
OREYEON – THE GROTESQUE WITHIN
Stoner, Grunge, Psych
La Spezia, Italy
Heavy Psych Sounds
La Spezia, Italy’s OREYEON are such a great band. I have loved all of their releases, as they leverage influences from late 60s psych, to 70s rock and proto, to 90s grunge, a bit of prog, a dash of punk…all of which turns into a big bowl of awesome. This delicious dish continues on the band’s latest record, The Grotesque Within. Album four is a darker affair, bringing a bit of bleak atmosphere to their version of psych-leaning stoner doom, with excellent results.
~ Rich Piva (Musipedia of Metal, FuzzDoomRip, Rich & Turbo’s Heavy Half Hour)
The tape clicks, and Echoes of Old Nightmares seeps in… Slow, sludgy, inevitable. From that first breath, OREYEON’s The Grotesque Within feels like stepping into a narrowing corridor, each riff a dying light, each drumbeat bringing the walls ever closer. Born between solitude and studio sessions in a cold 2025 winter, the album trades cosmic drift for something heavier, earthbound, and suffocating. Inspired by existential dread, it doesn’t resist the darkness, it embraces it! Monolithic riffs loom, vocals drift like uneasy dreams, and the weight builds patiently. No escape possible, only surrender. And then you are carried away by a crushing wave that feels strangely like peace…
~ Joop Konraad (Stoner HiVe)
POST LUCTUM – TIMOR LUCIS
Melodic Death, Doom Metal
Maryland, USA
Meuse Music Records
The album’s themes of isolation, loneliness and being rejected are represented frighteningly well across the album’s 7 song, 50-minute runtime. The album’s title is, I think, Latin for “fear of the light,” or something similar at least. That is in of itself a powerful message, one that is fully represented across the album’s harrowing journey. This makes “Timor Lucis,” a very human album—and a raw one. There isn’t anyone alive who can’t relate, in some way, to the emotions this album explores. For me, this album represents just how powerful doom, and metal in general, can be. So often it is dismissed as “that screamo” stuff but it is as legit a genre as any other—and can make one feel things in a way that only metal can.
~ Justin Wittenmeier (DoomedForMetal)
RIASTRAD – RIASTRAD
Doom
Portland, Oregon, USA
Self-released
Traditional doom that kicks ass, with a lead singer who mentions Ann Wilson from Heart as one of her main influences? Yes, please! The debut, self-titled record from Portland, Oregon’s RIASTRAD is even better than you may imagine. The guys in the band are excellent and play some of the coolest doom you will hear, with all sorts of other influences that make this record great. Then, add Paige Parker’s vocals to the mix and now you have something super special in the form of the ten tracks on their first record. Parker, one of my new favorite vocalists, with Damion Lazzara’s riffs, and the super solid rhythm section of Todd Dehart and Lance Paden makes RIASTRAD‘s first effort some killer, next level heavy stuff.
~ Rich Piva (Musipedia of Metal, FuzzDoomRip, Rich & Turbo’s Heavy Half Hour)
Out of Portland’s haze, RIASTRAD arrives like a storm rolling in low… and loud! Their self-titled debut unfolds across forty-five minutes, ten tracks carving a road of molten riffs and restless momentum. At the helm, Paige Parker’s voice shifts like fire… One moment searing, the next honeyed, drawing you deeper into their spell. What begins in doom soon breaks its chains, surging into thrash and echoes of heavy metal’s past. Gothic weight and medieval hues loom large, yet flashes of ‘90s grunge and stoner rock give it a lived-in soul. It feels less like an album and yes, more like a ride… One that pulls you back in over and over again!
~ Joop Konraad (Stoner HiVe)
ROB ZOMBIE – THE GREAT SATAN
Groove Metal, Nu-Metal, Shock Rock
USA
Nuclear Blast Records
For those who have been hoping for ROB ZOMBIE to get back to the raw sandpaper grit of his earlier albums will be shopping smiles in the air vibrating in front of the speaker when spinning his new album. ‘The Great Satan‘ has thunderous grooves, blasting beats, memorable choruses and a ferocious production while mr. Zombie himself sounds like the young bloke that once conquered the earth with trademarks screams and an aggressive vocal style that landed smack bang in the middle of singing and shouting. This is a top-notch record for sure – like a vicious cannonball exploding in your face.
~ Ronny Dijksterhuis (Stoner HiVe)
ROSTRO DEL SOL – UNIVERSO 25
Seventie, Free-Jazz, Progressive, Psychedelic
Mexico
Echodelic Records, Clostridium Records, Stoner Dealer Records, Smogles Records
ROSTRO DEL SOL is a fantastic band destined for greater recognition and audience respect. Their concept album blends symphonic progressive rock, jazz-rock, blues, heavy psychedelia, and delicate improvisational passages, constructing an inspired sonic narrative across ten tracks. In these songs, textbook progressive elements and jazz-rock intertwine within complex structures. This evolution allows classic rock and blues elements to give way to intricate symphonic passages where vintage organ and piano take center stage. Somewhere between the Canterbury scene and the progressive hard rock of bands like Yes, Jethro Tull, and Camel, ROSTRO DEL SOL knows how to color this sonic tapestry with a psychedelia that at times veers towards acid, while at others it pays homage to the Santana legacy with more vibrant rhythms.
~ Roberto Lucas (Denpa Fuzz)
SILENT DEEP OCEAN – ESSENCE OF EXISTENCE
Funeral doom, death/doom
Venus, Texas, USA
Abyssopelagic Recordings
“Essence of Existence,” reminds me a lot of something The Howling Void may release. Much like that band, the music is laced with symphonic textures but not in a bombastic way. They act more like an atmospheric river that carries with it beautiful and subtle Gothic tendencies with regal, smartly written arrangements. Gregory creates the music he writes with the technique called Endtroducing,” a technique that was revolutionary in the electronic music world, developed by a composer named DJ Shadow, who used it to create an instrumental hip-hop album entirely out of samples. A lot of those ideas are incorporated here, using keys, software, and VSTs to help create his vision of this ethereal, doom-laden world.
~ Justin Wittenmeier (DoomedForMetal)
STAR BEAST – STARBEAST II
Psych, Stoner, Doom
Toronto, Ontario
Black Throne Productions
As someone who came of age in the 80s and early 90s, moving from metal into the rise of alternative and indie, but whose foundation has always been rooted in the blues heavy rock of the 60s and 70s, Star Beast II hits a familiar but darker nerve for me. Where the debut carried a bit more immediacy, this record leans further into shadow, dialing back the pop edge and embracing a moodier, slightly more obscure character. The blend of classic rock depth with a 90s indie sensibility gives the album a darker, introspective weight, where the hooks are still present but wrapped in a moodier, more shadowed atmosphere. STAR BEAST does it again, awesome!!!
~ Michael D’Amato (Playgroundz Rocks, D’Amato Production)
SUPLECS – HYMNS UNDER A BLOOD MOON SKY
Stoner, Punk, Sludge
New Orleans, LA, USA
Ripple Music
In 2002 I remember buying a SUPLECS CD purely based on the wrestling themed album cover and location in my local record shop. I loved it and collected all I could from the band back then. Looks like I will be doing it again, as Ripple Music will not only be reissuing the band’s amazing back catalog but also Hymns Under A Blood Moon Sky, the first new material from the band since 2011. We should all be grateful to have more SUPLECS material in our lives, especially since the new record is twelve tracks of ripper after ripper, high energy, stoner metal with sludge and punk rock leanings that show what this New Orleans trio has been about for decades. Time has not softened Suplecs, only made them more pissed, which is certainly great for all of us listeners of Hymns Under A Blood Moon Sky.
~ Rich Piva (Musipedia of Metal, FuzzDoomRip, Rich & Turbo’s Heavy Half Hour)
WILDHORSE – SHEWOLF
Rock, Heavy Folk, Dark Country
Brittany, France
Wild Horses Productions
Remember hearing Alice In Chains EP’s Sap or Jar of Flies and being surprised by how much it hit harder than one would think. WILDHORSE from Appalooza side project gives that same heavy raw folk feeling. The album Shewolf is filled with vunerability and atmospheric expression with a powerful heaviness not showcased that often in the doom/stoner genre. Call it dark country, doom folk, dust soaked acoustic rock this album is just simply heavy.
~ Turbo (Rich & Turbo’s Heavy Half Hour)
