“Affection, it can’t be combined with
perfection something so divine
we could’ve had our own little world
but you chose to run away with the… Doom Charts…”~ probably misheard lyrics by Slomosa
As we enter another year, where the Doom Charts scours the Heavy Underground in search of all those amazing albums. We cannot help but think about all those albums that have already been featured since 2015. And those that weren’t. Cause on average the Contributors vote for a total of 200 different albums per month. This month 218. Wow… That’s a lot of heavy music. And we shall continue to spread all that music and our love for it… Even though there’s all that Generative AI stuff to work through now as well. And the amount of it is growing. Some of it is pretty decent even. Some only part AI. And some will undoubtly slip through and make it on to the Doom Charts… We don’t understand at all why one would use a plagarism machine to spill out music, when one could just try to come up with something completely their own. I for one am not interested in what a machine can rehash out of the million ideas it has been fed. There are programs out there that can make your music sound perfect. I am not interested in perfect. Perfect is boring. And it’s not what people can actually do. There’s no fun there. I for one am interested in your idea, your take, your riffs and your energy… Your mistakes. It’s what makes it human. There might be nothing new under the sun, but your take of that will forever be your take and thats what matters and what makes it interesting…
Everything worth doing, is worth doing right…

Psychedelic, Rock, Kraut, Stoner
Malmö, Sweden
Urskog Records
Taking the listener to an expansively marvellous meadow of moss and fern, the dappled sunlight of life’s seasons, and of course, some “passing of the proverbial dutchie.” Paving the road to emotively powerful riffing over weighty jams through stacked refrain and crescendo sequences (which pack plenty of atmospheric, mellodically melancholic yet strangely uplifting punch) is a gloriously resinous saxophone at its gutsy centre while spacy keys wrap all that rich rhythm and soulful riffage in a suitably psyched-up web of glittering stars. Highly recommended.
~ The Doom Oracle (Spectral Ecstacy)
24. SYBERIA – QUAN TOT S’APAGUI / NEW!
1450 Points
Post-rock, Post Metal, Instrumental
Barcelona, Spain
Moment Of Collapse Records / Silent Pendulum Records
In my opinion, instrumental post-metal is one of the musical genres in which reinventing oneself and standing out requires a great deal of audacity and creativity. While there are many undeniably talented bands that I regularly listen to, only a few manage to truly stand out and become my favourites. SYBERIA, whom I recently discovered through their new album QUAN TOT S’APAGUI, has definitely managed to do so. The Barcelona-based band has delivered a dark and deeply emotional album that captivates the listener from start to finish. It sounds like the epic, powerful soundtrack to a feature film, sometimes post-apocalyptic, sometimes cyberpunk. But whatever path it takes us down, it’s always captivating!
~ Jay Baner (La Capsule Stoner)
23. PLANET HUNTER – SOOTHSAYER / NEW!
1628 Points
Grunge, Post Hardcore, Stoner
Wellington, New Zealand
Sharkhound Records
Wellington, New Zealand’s PLANET HUNTER‘s latest release has the band doubling down on their version of melodic post hardcore paired with fuzzy stoner grunge, once again producing excellent results. The seven tracks on Soothsayer flat out rip, showing all the strengths of the band who apparently decided to take their stuff to the next level up. This record is chock full of 90s post hardcore vibes, think Quicksand (a lot of Quicksand), Helmet, Sunny Day Real Estate, Catherine Wheel, and if Foo Fighters didn’t suck after album number one and a half, pairing with the fuzz we all love.
~ Rich Piva (Musipedia of Metal, FuzzDoomRip, Rich & Turbo’s Heavy Half Hour)
22. SHROOM CLOUD – MYCOPHAGIC TRANSCENDENCE / NEW!
1900 Points
Stoner Doom
Umeå, Sweden
Self-released
Swedish Stonerheads SHROOM CLOUD offer up a 4 track compendium of low-slung, fuzzed-out Stoner Doom, complete with all the heavy riffage and atmospherics you come to expect from the genre, delivered with force and composure.
~ Stevie Reek aka Steve De Rique (Howls from The Hollows, Doomed & Stoned, Stoner HiVe)
21. VOODOO QUEEN – VIOLET CROWN / NEW!
2145 Points
Fuzz, Heavy Rock, Stoner Rock
La Rochelle, France
Self-released
Newcomers to the French scene, VOODOO QUEEN is a stoner rock band fronted by the talented female singer Fabiola. Their songs give pride of place to both heavy fuzzy riffs and clear melodies that gradually thicken and become more complex. Their debut album, Violet Crown, is a first strike but a lethal one. Of course, fans of Messa, Gaupa, Avatarium, Sun Q and Wij will enjoy a lot but everyone else can be bewitched by the VOODOO QUEEN!
~ Thierry “Queen-T“ François (Metal Intégral)
20. MOTSUS – ATLAS / NEW!
2211 Points
Stoner Rock, Post-metal, Instrumental
Belgium
Polderrecords
MOTSUS has chosen an exclusively instrumental mode of expression. It is a challenge to forgo lyrics, but the band takes this as an advantage. Indeed, throughout Atlas they skillfully use their stoner rock as a weapon to stimulate the imagination. The pitfall to avoid in an instrumental album would be allowing monotony to set in. However, the Flemish band’s creative potential is robust enough to sustain the whole album while constantly renewing the listener’s attention. A true tour de force!
~ Thierry “Pumpkin-T“ François (Metal Intégral)
19. WILD FUZZ TRIP – FUZZ TRANSMISSIONS / NEW!
2604 Points
Progressive stoner
Spain
Self-released
Five lengthy tracks and a total playing time over 40 minutes. That screams serious psychedelic goodness. And that’s exactly what you get. Keyboards swirling around heavy stoner grooves, infectious bass lines talking straight to you from in between pummeling drum breaks, some quiet passages to balance things out. WILD FUZZ TRIP know what they’re doing on their aptly titled new album ‘Fuzz Transmissions‘ by creating beautiful and well rounded-out progressive instrumental stoner that makes you feel like a star amongst the stars; a result of the big bang that set everything in motion way before there was any notion of life on earth.
~ Ronny Dijksterhuis (Stoner HiVe)
18. AEON TEMPLE – RESURFACED / NEW!
2782 Points
Doom, Post Metal
Germany
Temple Records
A decade after the release of their debut EP, eclectic trio AEON TEMPLE has graced us with Resurfaced, an album that checks all the boxes for fans of a more sophisticated style of heavy music. Beginning with stoner/doom grooves and cinematic imagery that could easily be the soundtrack to a post-apocalyptic thriller and gently morphing with chameleon-like skill into an emotionally raw, beautifully progressive work, this album has a bit of everything and then some. All the while, AEON TEMPLE expertly blends genres into vivid, cohesive oeuvres that bleed with uninhibited emotional expression from both vocals and instrumentals. While some of these combinations and atmospheres aren’t what you’d expect from a metal-forward album, the creative intent and bigger picture always become crystal clear by each song’s end. While there are plenty of heavy riffs to rock out to and mesmeric interludes to get lost in, Resurfaced also commands and claims our attention, involvement, and emotional investment in a powerful way.
~ Stephanie Zalta (DoomCakes, Screaming From The Heavy Underground)
17. IRON HEAD – FUNDAMENTAL / NEW!
3150 Points
Doom, Stoner
Bali, Indonesia
Skullism Records
With larger than life grooves, gushing from the belly of the beast, these five guys are an all-out riff monster, breathing fire, burning skulls, leaving you all scared and blistered – and not only on the ultra heavy mid-paced title track, where doom reigns and space rock accents are the frills around the edges. No, they wield their blunt chainsaw all the way through, threatening to separate the limbs from your body while filming the whole scene to proudly show at a nice and cosy family gathering. This is traditional stoner doom at its very, very best. For fans of Church of Misery, Bongzilla, Sons of Otis, Sleep, Kyuss and early Monster Magnet.
~ Ronny Dijksterhuis (Stoner HiVe)
16. SKY VALLEY MISTRESS – LUNA MAUSOLEUM / NEW!
3320 Points
Rock, Alternative, Fuzz, Stoner
Darwen, UK
New Heavy Sounds
My first thought listening to this was wow what a vocalist! My second thought was what a full sound then I saw this is a two person band. The talent here is off the charts. That sometimes doesn’t translate to great music but it does here. Every instrument, every melody and every single note sounds great. A highly enjoyable listening experience.
~ Andy Kovalcik (Bandcamp-NYP-Hard&Heavy)
15. ROSTRO DEL SOL – UNIVERSO 25 / NEW!
3762 Points
Psych, Prog, Jazz, Instrumental
Mexico City, Mexico
Echodelick Records / Stoners Dealer Records / Clostridium Records / Smogles Records
Universo 25, the second full length album from Mexico City psych/jazz/prog sextet, ROSTRO DEL SOL, provides 2026’s first strong candidate for album of the year. With top flight musicianship and impressive compositional depth and variety, ROSTRO DEL SOL has become one of my favorites in the genre. Yes, taking influence from the 70s, but not in a way that feels derivative or that merely apes the tropes of yesteryear. Rather, the band has created something more earthy and spontaneous that adds to the discourse rather than merely repeating what everyone else is already saying. On Universo 25, ROSTRO DEL SOL has melded a wide array of genres to create their most accomplished work to date; an album that is truly special.
~ Ben Bellum (The Greatest Thing You’ve Never Heard)
14. TÖTEM – TOTEM / NEW!
4260 Points
Sludge, Noise, Doom
New Orleans, LA , USA
Self-released
Pure aggression from the first riff right which flows right into catchy heavy grooves. This New Orleans trio has taken the new year on by storm with their first full length self titled album. Of course, influenced by some of New Orleans finest, they go beyond that thick juicy Jimmy Bower tone. Drawing inspiration from bands such as Electric Wizard and Melvins to Whores. and Russian Circles, this talented group of newcomers will not leave you bored with each tune different in its own way. As you listen.. Envision being in the padded room, strait jacket on as the pounding groove courses through your body. The sound elevates you, releases the straps and the door opens. Look Out!
~ Hugh Jones (The OG Metal Prophet, The Prophet’s Heavy Underground)
13. DUST GIANT – STATIC IN THE BLOOD / NEW!
4476 Points
Psychedelic Rock, Space Rock, Stoner Rock
Williamsburg, USA
Self-released
With Static in the Blood, DUST GIANT deliver a suffocating yet deeply immersive slab of modern stoner rock that balances crushing heaviness with haunting emotional space depth. The album thrives on slow-building tension, weaving layered guitars, weighty rhythms, and raw, exposed vocals into a soundscape that feels both oppressive and cathartic. Rather than relying solely on sheer volume, DUST GIANT explore atmosphere and dynamic restraint, allowing their songs to breathe, simmer, and ultimately erupt with devastating impact. It’s a record that lingers long after the final note fades, confirming DUST GIANT as a band capable of translating emotional gravity into towering sonic weight.
~ Svempa ‘Doomsday Jesus’ Alveving (Cries From The Underworld)
12. TARLUNG – AXIS MUNDI / NEW!
4596 Points
Sludge, Doom, Metal
Vienna, Austria
Argonauta Records
It is a curious and interesting album because it kept me guessing at times as to where the songs were going to go. The opening song, “Static Noise,” is a prime example of this. The intro to the song has a hard rock feel to it but with the slow build up of doom. As the seconds tick by, the drums kick in and then the groove ramps up. At the 1:37 mark, the sludge/doom gets turned up about 10,000 notches. Philipp and Clemen’s abilities to wield the power of the riff is compelling! I absolutely LOVE Philipp’s death grows/screams: powerful, loud, vicious, but they don’t overpower the music. Marian’s drumming is expert level, going heavy and totally encompassing when needed but able to steer the band as effectively in the less hectic moments.
~ Justin Wittenmeier (DoomedForMetal)
11. SHAMAYNA – LOVERDOSE / NEW!
5712 Points
Doom, Sludge
Siversky, Russia
Self-released / Addicted Label
SHAMAYNA is a three-piece doom/sludge from the frozen land of Russia. Their music is a classic doom with loud and energic guitar riffs, a raw drum sound and clear vocals. The peculiarity is that the singing is in Russian which it gives a more epic identity to their music. Loverdose is a pleasant and dark journey with psychedelic, blues and grunge elements blended with perfection with the sludgy side. Raw and heavy, that’s the best words to describe what these barbarians gave us.
~ Edouard Dubuisson (Les chroniques d’Eddy, MetalUniverse)
10. BLACKWATER HOLYLIGHT – NOT HERE NOT GONE / NEW!
5760 Points
Doom, Shoegaze, Grunge
Portland, Oregon
Suicide Squeeze Records
BLACKWATER HOLYLIGHT‘s latest, Not Here Not Gone, is a huge step forward for the band, doubling down on what the Portland band does best; ethereal, heavy but dreamy shoegaze, with psych, doom, and grunge elements that has a dark beauty to it, unique to what this band can create. The trio could share the stage with bands ranging from Narrow Head to Lamp of Murmuur and no one would bat an eye. With MBV-esque wall-of-sound guitars that swirl around your head and take root, paired with atmospheric vocals that can both draw you in and make you want to flee from the danger at the same time, Not Here Not Gone captures a dark and heavy atmospheric beauty in a way only BLACKWATER HOLYLIGHT can.
~ Rich Piva (Musipedia of Metal, FuzzDoomRip, Rich & Turbo’s Heavy Half Hour)
9. HÄLLAS – PANORAMA / NEW!
9537 Points
Progressive, Seventies, Eighties, Adventure Rock
Jönköping, Sweden
Aventyr Records
HÄLLAS have been crafting their sound for over a decade and a half now with no signs of slowing down. With their latest release Panorama and specifically the opening twenty-one-plus track ‘Above the Continuum’ they take their craft to new heights, pushing the envelope of current progressive rock. It’s a synth heavy offering, a complex cinematic journey, one that HÄLLAS throw all of their influences and artistic styles into. Lyrically and emotionally, it unfolds as both a triumph and a cautionary tale. The B-side gives us even more, with the adventure and storytelling HÄLLAS are known for continuing throughout.
~ Jon McGough (Stoner Rock Army, Stoner HiVe, Outlaws Of The Sun)
8. INDICA BLUES – UNIVERSAL HEAT DEATH / NEW!
10040 Points
Psychedelic, Blues, Doom, Stoner
Oxford, UK
Majestic Mountain Records
INDICA BLUES return with their most ambitious and apocalyptic work to date. Their songs, born from a smoking bong, traverse a Stoner-doom space where blues and a vintage atmosphere coexist in a lysergic melancholy. Five years after the release of their album ‘WE ARE DOOMED,’ they confirm that the embers of that psychedelic bonfire have been rekindled to the delight of their fans. ‘UNIVERSAL DEATH HEAT’ is the confirmation that these guys have found their own kryptonite through distortion, imposing riffs, and a chemistry that makes their songs fluid and dynamic.
~ Roberto Lucas (Denpa Fuzz)
7. REDWOOD – TIME TO LOSE / NEW!
10542 Points
Heavy Psychedelic, Stoner Rock, Desert Rock
California, USA
Northern Buffalo Productions
Time To Lose hits that sweet spot where grungy grit and psychedelia bleed into each other, with a raw, live feeling energy that keeps the record immediate and unfiltered. Nothing feels overworked, the riffs breathe, the arrangements stay loose, and the psych elements add space without sanding down the edges. The vocals sit perfectly in that vibe, cool, unforced, and full of character, giving the album its personality as much as its weight.
~ Michael D’Amato (Playgroundz Rocks, D’Amato Production)
6. RITUAL ARCANA – RITUAL ARCANA / NEW!
10695 Points
Doom, Stoner, Proto, Occult, Psych
New York, USA
Heavy Psych Sounds
The legend who is Wino is usually the main attraction, whether it is one of his excellent solo records or whatever band he is performing in. With his new project, the power trio RITUAL ARCANA, Wino finds himself sharing the spotlight, or maybe even playing second fiddle just a bit, to the singer/bassist of the band, SharLee LuckyFree, who also happens to be his better half in life. The band plays some killer proto doom psych, leveraging the best of Wino’s amazing playing and tone with LuckyFree’s booming, siren song, witchy vocals, and occult leaning lyrics to bring us an unforgettable 38 minutes of dark, spooky, and heavy rock and roll.
~ Rich Piva (Musipedia of Metal, FuzzDoomRip, Rich & Turbo’s Heavy Half Hour)
5. TEMPTRESS – HEAR / NEW!
11280 Points
Doom, Stoner, Post-Rock, Grunge
Dallas, Texas, USA
Blues Funeral Recordings
As soon as I listened to HEAR, the sophomore album by Dallas-based power trio TEMPTRESS, I knew it would be high on my list for January. And now the moment of truth has arrived, with the album taking second place! The album as a whole exudes sincerity, creating the impression of close collaboration between the three band members during the writing and production process. With a rich mix of influences ranging from rhythmic, powerful heavy rock to alternative post-rock in the style of Sonic Youth, it’s clear that the band have found their recipe. The balance is always perfect: heavy yet bouncy sounds; precise yet staccato rhythms; and male and female vocals that alternate depending on the track. All these elements come together to form a harmonious whole that won me over completely. I believe this was also true of their debut LP, SEE, released in 2023, but I probably didn’t pay it enough attention at the time. I can tell you now that I will come back to it to correct this mistake.
~ Jay Baner (La Capsule Stoner)
4. LORD ELEPHANT – ULTRA SOUL / NEW!
13041 Points
Doom, Heavy Blues
Florence, Italy
Heavy Psych Sounds
Italian instrumental psychedelic doom wizards LORD ELEPHANT are back with their aptly titled sophomore release Ultra Soul. This seven-track mind flight features the bone-rattling, pachydermian stomps of doom and hypnotic psychedelic reverberations we know and love from the band, but it’s the stronger emphasis on bluesy soul that gives this album a heightened sense of emotional expression without the need for vocals. Furthermore, if you thought there was no way LORD ELEPHANT could more expertly meld both crushing riffs and vast atmospheres into a more homogenous concoction, think again. Somehow, there are even more layers present on Ultra Soul than in the band’s previous works, adding a plethora of dimension and making for even smoother transitions between moods.
~ Stephanie Zalta (DoomCakes, Screaming From The Heavy Underground)
3. GIANT – BENEATH THE MOUNTAINS / NEW!
16191 Points
Stoner, Sludge, Doom, Metal
Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
Self-released
GIANT’s sound has obvious stoner influences, especially in the bass where the fuzz flows like a river of blood. The leads are a bit psychedelic too, which adds a very cool flavor to the songs. With that being said, “Beneath The Mountains,” is far heavier than most stoner doom I’ve heard (and therein lies the appeal for me). I really, really like the vocals—death growls and screams, which make this stand out amongst the seemingly endless parade of stoner doom. But like with any good doom album, this one is all about the power of the might riff. Riffs, riffs, and more riffs! Between the guitars’ crushing tone and the powerful fuzz of the bass, this album is heavy in a very special and intense way. The production certainly helps with this: the album has that hazy stoner feels mixed with the grit of more extreme flavors all the while without sounding like it was recorded in a porta potty. Simply put, the album’s production/mix allows the band to send out their crushing message like nonstop waves of sonic purity.
~ Justin Wittenmeier (DoomedForMetal)
2. CAPACOPTER – CAPACOPTER / NEW!
16200 Points
Stoner, Psychedelic, Rock
Mannheim, Germany
Self-released
CAPACOPTER‘S self-titled debut provides a lasting impression of the stoner rockers from Mannheim. It begins on a strikingly spirited note as the first three songs produce big, echoing stoner/desert reverberations that one can easily picture filling a large venue. These tracks boast energetic, turbulent bursts and soaring, infectious choruses that are reminiscent of heavy hitters like Slomosa. From here, one notices a distinct shift in sound that carries through to the end of the album – a healthy infusion of heavy blues soul and colorful, classic 70s heavy rock. However, CAPACOPTER doesn’t miss a beat, keeping the momentum going strong and keeping up with those memorable, singable hooks. All in all, CAPACOPTER proves on their debut album that they’re not only capable of playing a variety of styles in a vibrant, unforgettable way, but they also show that they’re poised to become mainstays of the underground stoner scene.

1. NEW MEXICAN DOOM CULT – ZIGGURAT / NEW!
25885 Points
Doom, Stoner, Proto
Gävle, Sweden
Majestic Mountain Records
Are they a cult from New Mexico or a new cult from Mexico? Actually they are a doom band from Gävle, Sweden, and on their second full-length record, the band takes a major step forward with their brand of proto doom, leaning towards lo-fi goodness that they have delivered on their previous material, with Ziggurat. Candlemass, Trouble, Pentagram, and more contemporary bands like Early Moods and Sahg vibes are lurking, but these guys are the real deal who are really starting to develop their own doomy and dirty sound.
~ Rich Piva (Musipedia of Metal, FuzzDoomRip, Rich & Turbo’s Heavy Half Hour)
I’m a firm believer that the Swedish doomsters NEW MEXICAN DOOM CULT can do no wrong when it comes to generating both impenetrable walls of sinister riffage and the most captivating of tales, but their new album Ziggurat stands apart for being the band’s heaviest and most ambitious release to date. Everything you know and love about NEW MEXICAN DOOM CULT is here, but with added impact, dimension, and perhaps most interestingly, a few cool surprises at the end of the album that show a very different side of the band. A no-skip gem from start to finish, this immersive album will chew you up and spit you out (and you won’t mind).
~ Stephanie Zalta (DoomCakes, Screaming From The Heavy Underground)
Even though we can only hope that the first single Cloudrider was meant as an ode to Pentagram’s Forever My Queen, the overal sound the NEW MEXICAN DOOM CULT four spill out across the album feels like they’ve meant to carve this all out in stone. Ziggurat feels as if they summon a slow-moving colossus, as if ancient priests etched riffs into clay tablets and set them vibrating through out time. Each track rises like a stepped temple towards the heavens, built from rumbling drums, smoke ridden guitars and chants that seem to carry all the omens and fate you can handle. Songs unfold like sacred rites, shifting between trance and catastrophe. Their proto sound is immersive, commanding and impossible to ignore…
