“”One good thing about music on the Doom Charts, when it hits you, you feel no pain…”
~ Bob Marley
The saying “one good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain” means music can have a powerfully distracting and healing effect, allowing a person to momentarily escape their physical or emotional pain. It highlights music’s ability to provide comfort, uplift the mood, and create a sense of peace. And it can do so much more for so many of us. And with the amount of great music constantly growing larger, it could possibly become the universal healer. And when it becomes too much, there is always that off switch. If only for a few minutes, hours or even a week. And then you come back to your favorite albums all fresh and in a desperate need to hear them once again… Below, there are 40 listed that might just become one of those albums! 1336 Points
Noise, Metal, Grunge, Alternative Rock, Sludge, Stoner
Tel Aviv, Israel
Reality Rehab Records
LOVE YOUR WITCH from Tel Aviv, Israel calls their music stoner thrash. To me however, their sixth studio album can (for the larger part) best be described as sludgy noise metal with a ragged edge of stoner roaring from the belly of the beast, clawing its way up through the bowel system before gushing out of the beast’s wide open mouth. But there are also several songs where their grungy and sensitive sides come to the forefront, digging deep into the melodic and/or mellow side of alternative nineties rock music. All in all a great, diverse album where every emotion imaginable gets a place to shine or – more accurate – mixes with the remnants of yesterdays sonic feast, which the beast so skilfully poured over you, looking for a way to seep into your system once the fluid hits your skin.
~ Ronny Dijksterhuis (Stoner HiVe)
24. BLACK SABBITCH – UNREST IN THE WEST / NEW!
1386 Points
(Actual) Sabbath Worship
California, USA
Ripple Music
The ladies of BLACK SABBITCH are no ordinary cover band. The group has closed festivals, played to 80,000 people, and headlined tours around the world on the regular. This is no gimmick and this is no hobby Sabbath tribute band; BLACK SABBITCH is the real deal. These are four musicians at the top of their game who have come together based on their love of Sabbath and who rip out (almost) every Ozzy era song with tons of passion and their unique spin. They have been doing this for over 13 years, with fans always leaving their sold out shows happy, except for the fact that there was no music to take home with them…until now, as Ripple Music brings us the live-in-the-studio with an audience first album from BLACK SABBITCH, Unrest In The West. All rejoice, we finally have a physical album, and it is the perfect take away from one of their live shows and an excellent representation of what the band is all about. All hail BLACK SABBITCH!!!

23. BUZZARD – EVERYTHING IS NOT GOING TO BE ALRIGHT / NEW!
1484 Points
Doom, Folk
Massachusetts, USA
Self-released
It’s sad to live in a world where a horrible corrupt media and party ruled government wants to pit us against each other. But I know there is outrage in the air with today’s political climate. And with outrage comes incredible art. None of this could be more evident than in BUZZARD‘s latest masterpiece EVERYTHING IS NOT GOING TO BE ALLRIGHT. The loathing and frustration pours out and makes for one awesome album. Heavy doom folk at its finest. Incredibly clever and equally satirical lyrics which results in one of the most honest insights into the head of someone who has been beaten down by the system. I understand.
~ Hugh Jones (The OG Metal Prophet, The Prophet’s Heavy Underground)
22. FROZEN PLANET…. 1969 – ECHOLAND / NEW!
1818 Points
Heavy Psych, Instrumental
Sydney, Australia
Pepper Shaker Records
ECHOLAND merges this sort of jazzy, prog- based psych rock energy with a free flowing sonic journey where you cannot anticipate which direction the music will twist next. This album is well executed retro 70s tones and fuzzed-out proto-doom riffs, walking hand in hand with jazzy, improvisational, laid-back, spaced-out passages. It’s a loose, improvisational trip packed with psychedelic guitar freakouts and effortless groove – a fresh listen for fans who crave unpredictability and heavy retro vibes.
~ Ryan Hilton (Black Throne Productions)
21. SLÔDDER – NARCISSIST / NEW!
1872 Points
Sludge, Doom
Wermland, Sweden
Shit County Records
Gravel drenched wretched vocals and filthy sludged-out riffs delivered with complete disregard for whatever the fuck. Relentless. All in the best possible way. ‘Narcissist’ is the real deal, and with their own stamp on it, SLÔDDER are furiously mining that Eyehategod vein with a vengeance. If you need a serious dose of abrasive heavy riff punishment, look no further.
~ Clint Willis (Hand of Doom Radio)
20. RIVER CULT – HIGH ANXIETY / NEW!
2409 Points
Heavy Psych
New York, New York, USA
Self-released
The new record from NYC heavy psych-ers RIVER CULT keeps up their mind-bending ways while also writing their most straightforward songs of their career so far, with amazing results. This record screams New York City; with every note played and word sung you feel like you are riding on the bus or traversing through the busy streets of Manhattan, and not always the nice parts, with riffs and a killer rhythm section, now with former NAAM drummer Eli Pizzuto holding it all together. We need more killer heavy psych, and RIVER CULT delivers just that with High Anxiety.
~ Rich Piva (Musipedia of Metal, FuzzDoomRip, Rich & Turbo’s Heavy Half Hour)
19. MOONSTONE – AGE OF MYCOLOGY / NEW!
2562 Points
Doom Metal, Psych, Stoner Metal, Sludge
Kraków, Poland
Interstellar Smoke Records
Deep in the humid forests of Poland, MOONSTONE crawls underground into the heart of the mycelium’s web and their album – Age Of Mycology – has finally reached the light! I’d compare it to a sometimes sludgy version of CAVERN DEEP’s experiments. I mean that fans of low-tuned bass, creepy or crushing rhythms, fuzzy distorted crackling guitars, and calm yet strong vocals will be hooked by this gem. A gloomy psychedelia emanates from the atmosphere. Yes I know Kraków is not really a forest but believe me, this dark and mysterious opus reeks of mucus!
~ Thierry “Pumpkin-T“ François (Metal Intégral)
18. SOFTSUN – ETERNAL SUNRISE / NEW!
2808 Points
Desert Rock, Psych, Shoegaze
California, USA
Heavy Psych Sounds
Sure, music can change your mood, but few artists can also significantly impact you physiologically. California’s impressive SOFTSUN does just that on the latest album Eternal Sunrise. A terrific follow-up to 2024’s Daylight in The Dark, the latest release takes you on a masterful hypnotic expedition of the mind and body. Mixing elements of shoegaze and atmospheric desert rock, this album allows you to just close your eyes and float as the beautiful guitar ambiance of Gary Arce (Yawning Man, Big Scenic Nowhere) and serene vocals of Pia Isaksen (Pia Isa, Superlynx) carry you to places of calm while still maintaining an appropriate underlying intensity. Robert Garson compliments the 6 tracks with superb percussive elements. Yeah, I’m a metal man, but I still like to chill to some mellow psychedelic bliss. My drug of choice for that is SOFTSUN.
~ Hugh Jones (The OG Metal Prophet, The Prophet’s Heavy Underground)
17. YOU GUITARPRAYER – I AM THE LIGHT / THE LIGHT I AM / NEW!
3204 Points
Psychedelic Noise Rock, Alternative Rock, Rock
Cologne, Germany
Worst Bassist Records
YOU GUITARPRAYER is an epic masterclass in performance and production, offering a truly cosmic and spiritual experience. The album’s meticulous arrangement, characterized by perfectly spaced dynamics and instrumentation, conveys a sense of profound light. The incredible depth of the musicianship and the pristine separation of complex sonic elements contribute significantly to this elevated feeling.
~ Michael D’Amato (Playgroundz Rocks, D’Amato Production)
16. KADAVAR – KIDS ABANDONING DESTINY AMONG VANITY AND RUIN / NEW!
3341 Points
Rock,
Berlin, Germany
Clouds Hill
The I Just Want To Be A Sound album arrived only months ago, but KADAVAR storm back like fuzz crazed time travelers kicking down the doors of heavy rock’s ancient granaries. Their new album, Kids Abandoning Destiny Among Vanity And Ruin, is an intense mix of stoner grit, doom thunder and classic rock swagger. Their earlier album flirted with pop and self-reinvention, but this one?! This is the sound of a band truly becoming it and being possessed by it. It is the most chaotic and most KADAVAR record they ever released. With every member throwing riffs, ideas and groove into the cauldron. The result isn’t just hard rock, retro or whatever, it’s a highly familiar yet definite mutant echo of heavy rock’s past. But most of all, the record seems to be bursting with raw rock and unfiltered joy. And that’s a sound we all want to become…
~ Joop Konraad (Stoner HiVe)
15. BEASTWARS – THE SHIP // THE SEA / NEW!
3738 Points
Stoner, Sludge, Metal
Wellington, New Zealand
Destroy Records
The Ship / The Sea has the driving ferocity that BEASTWARS are so well known for, while simultaneously giving the album an atmospheric presence. Towering waves of riffs pummel you, while the sorrowful, raw emotion of the vocals brings both aggression and despair to the narrative. As the storm surge batters the sails and shatters the wooden hull, this release pulls you slowly into its crushing depths.
~ Jon McGough (Stoner Rock Army, Stoner HiVe, Outlaws Of The Sun)
14. PAPIR – IX / NEW!
4279 Points
Psychedelic, Ambient, Kraut, Jam, Instrumental
Copenhagen, Denmark
Stickman Records
Fifteen years have passed since their first album, and their capacity to surprise us remains undiminished. True to their sound and their freedom to continue exploring new territories on their ongoing sonic journey, with ‘IX’ they present us with a work free of constraints, featuring long songs that gravitate freely between the styles the band has been investigating for years. Their instrumental psychedelia is colored with delicate post-rock textures, driven by hypnotic krautrock rhythms in a kaleidoscope of ambient music devoid of labels.
~ Roberto Lucas (Denpa Fuzz)
13. DUNE AURORA – ICE AGE DESERT / NEW!
4288 Points
Stoner, Desert, Doom
Turin, Italy
Argonauta Records
The ladies of Italian band DUNE AURORA bring some nice and fuzzy heavy rock on their first full length record, Ice Age Desert. This is some seriously solid heavy and melodic stoner goodness that differentiates itself with killer, three part harmonies that live alongside all the riffs. This trio gets both the heavy and the harmonies like a band that has been doing it for decades. DUNE AURORA brings it on their element-filled, excellent debut.
~ Rich Piva (Musipedia of Metal, FuzzDoomRip, Rich & Turbo’s Heavy Half Hour)
12. ACIDSITTER – ESCAPE FROM EGOLAND / NEW!
5148 Points
Heavy Psych, Stoner Rock
Krakow, Poland
Interstellar Smoke Records
ACIDSITTER specializes in an energetic but thought-provoking brand of psychedelic rock. While this appropriately named group infuses their music with plenty of hallucinogenic grooves inspired by the sounds of the 60s, the message behind their songs is always crystal clear. The band’s sophomore release Escape From Egoland bursts right out of the gate with even more bubbling energy than their debut album Make Acid Great Again. The edges are sharper, the emotions are higher, and the contrasts are starker. However, there’s an underlying urgency present within the colorful acidic grooves, a nod to the album’s theme that beseeches us to save ourselves from ourselves. More than anything, ACIDSITTER proves on this album that they’re a band that’s always thinking, growing, and evolving – adding even more clever layers to their kaleidoscopic sound while keeping a pulse on the times, ensuring that their sound grows with their listeners.
~ Stephanie Zalta (DoomCakes, Screaming From The Heavy Underground)
11. BURNING SISTER – GHOSTS / NEW!
5304 Points
Downer Rock, Stoner Rock
Denver, Colorado, USA
Sleeping Sentinel Records
Ghosts, the sophomore album from Denver-based downer rock duo BURNING SISTER, marks their first work as a two-piece since 2019. Nevertheless, the band proves that a massive sound can still emanate from a drum and bass duo as they churn out a hypnotic blend of doom, stoner rock, heavy psych, noise rock, and shoegaze. On a deeper level, Ghosts symbolizes tenacity and evolution for BURNING SISTER as they ambitiously took the opportunity to experiment with gear, amps, and effects. Relying less on a traditional Sabbathian doom/classic stoner sound than in the past, the band leans heavily into their heavy psych and noise rock influences on this album, producing a buzzing, immersive, lysergic tone that fills your entire body and mind with its echoing reverberations, a sensation that’s utterly addictive.
~ Stephanie Zalta (DoomCakes, Screaming From The Heavy Underground)
10. DOOMHERRE – PLAGUELORDS / NEW!
5525 Points
Doom Metal, Heavy Metal
Stockholm, Sweden
Skatbo Records / Majestic Mountain Records
The power trio upgrades their power to massive currents and nonstop surges. “Plaguelords,” is more groovy and harder hitting than the debut. However, it is also more melodic when it needs to be–and catchy as hell in places. The production is much more dynamic and explosive. Each instrument hits loud and true with a lot of weight behind each note. The bass is notable, a constant thunderous performance that boosts the entire band to the next level. The drums are both crisp and sharp—holding down a foundation but making plenty of movements on their own. The vocals are clean but rough when needed and always expressive. What can be said of the riffs? A tsunami of notes. But even though this album is doom as early fuck, it nuanced in a way that puts a big ol grin on my face. A quick little groove here, a catchy vocal line there, moments of melodic bass and drums that generate an atmosphere all their own.
~ Justin Wittenmeier (DoomedForMetal)
9. STONE NOMADS – EMPIRES OF STONE / NEW!
6156 Points
Sludge, Doom
Houston, TX, USA
Ripple Music
On Empires of Stone, STONE NOMADS’ third full length and first for Ripple Music, the Houston trio has truly arrived. A little bit of inside baseball as these guys are from my hometown and I’ve had the privilege of seeing their development up close, but they have really put in the work over the last five years. Honing their live show, working on their songwriting, getting on the road. Their effort pays off tenfold here. It’s no surprise that Ripple picked them up, and well they should. These guys rip… heavy sludge riffs, shredding solos, and thick AF production. As far as their overall sound, it’s easy enough to play the RIYL Crowbar, Down, COC, etc. game. But that doesn’t really tell the whole story of just how strong a record or what an enjoyable listen this is. Essential listening for all fans underground heavy.
~ Ben Bellum (The Greatest Thing You’ve Never Heard)
8. BLACK MAGIC TREE – TERRA / NEW!
6160 Points
Psych Rock, Blues Rock, Hard Rock, Stoner Rock
Berlin, Germany
Majestic Mountain Records
For all lovers of hard-hitting guitars, BLACK MAGIC TREE releases its second album – Terra – which sails on the Sea of Heavy Blues, somewhere between the island of Psych Rock and the archipelago of Ledzep. Just look at these colors in the stunning artwork by Martin Meir, reminiscent of Henri Rousseau: the exotic journey the German band invites us to undertake throughout Terra is a series of nine short stops (between 3 and 5 minutes), each one very rock, very lively, and full of surprises. No stop is superfluous, and the overall result is an exhilarating adventure.
~ Thierry “Black Magic-T“ François (Metal Intégral)
7. YAWNING MAN – PAVEMENT ENDS / NEW!
7296 Points
Desert Rock, Psychedelic, stoner, Prog
Palm Desert, California, USA
Heavy Psych Sounds
Formed in 1986 YAWNING MAN are often considered the founders of the Desert Rock scene although no music was officially released until 2005’s Rock Formation. Since then they have released a handful of excellent albums consistently setting the bar for fine instrumental stoner rock. This album consists of Gary Arce with the return of Mario Lalli on bass and Billy Stinson on drums. Their precise musicianship makes these jams as delectable as usual. No vocals needed here just the free flowing desert/stoner/psych rock that they are masters of. Highly enjoyable and strongly recommended.
~ Andy Kovalcik (Bandcamp-NYP-Hard&Heavy)
6. PALE HORSE RITUAL – DIABOLIC FORMATION / NEW!
7602 Points
Doom, Stoner, Sludge
Hamilton, Ontario, Canada
Black Throne Productions
PALE HORSE RITUAL brings the heavy, the slow knuckle-dragging type of heavy with riffs that hit like a bludgeoning stone hammer to the sacrificial skull. Sabbath worship is unapologetically used across Diabolic Formation, but after fifty plus years since the beginning, who hasn’t been influenced by the masters? Aside from thick riffs and swamp stomping tempos, PALE HORSE RITUAL also has a hell of a lead guitar who casts magical spells on the six-string, weaving wah-wah tones throughout the album. Blast this one loud and let the ritual begin…

5. ASTRALPLANE – OUT OF THE VOID / NEW!
8384 Points
Heavy Psych, Fuzz Rock, Blues
Oslo, Norway
Blues For The Red Sun
Out Of The Void is the third album from ASTRALPLANE, a 3 brothers composed Norwegian stoner psychedelic band. And this family dimension clearly influences their music. Indeed, Out Of The Void exudes a great richness and perfect harmony. This typical kind of complex balance of collaborative and intimate songwriting. In detail, when listening to the five tracks that make up the album, the heavy psychedelic base is complemented by a wide range of nuances, from space rock to fuzz rock, featuring recurring blues tones. This is a real success, and I think it’s a serious contender now that people are starting to think about their end-of-year lists!
~ Jay Baner (La Capsule Stoner)
4. MAHA SOHONA – A DARK PLACE / NEW!
9928 Points
Stoner, Heavy Psych, Fuzz, Grunge
Umeå, Sweden
Bonebag Records
The Swedish explorers of heavy-psych vibes emerge from the void with their new album, maintaining their essence intact. The band explores new territories, adding grunge elements to their previously showcased psychedelic sound. Their evocative songs, steeped in Nordic melancholy alongside the heaviness of their desert riffs, invite us to a rewarding experience where calm reigns in their beautiful and hypnotic compositions. With exquisite attention to melody, MAHA SOHONA deliver another outstanding album thanks to their distinctive, organic sound.
~ Roberto Lucas (Denpa Fuzz)
3. WOLFTOOTH – WIZARD’S LIGHT / NEW!
10089 Points
Stoner Metal, Heavy Metal, Doom Metal
Richmond, Indiana, USA
Ripple Music
WOLFTOOTH is back after four years of not releasing a new album, and this reviewer is happy to say they are sounding better than ever. All the ingredients that made them great are still intact: great riffs, catchy songs and soaring guitar solos. They’ve just brought it all up to another level. The twin guitars seem to soar even higher this time around with more-perfected guitar tones that seem to ooze out of the listener’s speakers. The vocals come off as more confident. The choruses and guitar riffs are more memorable to the point where any metal fan would still be singing these songs long after the album has ended. Blending elements of The Sword, Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath, this is old-school heavy metal the way it’s supposed to be. Had this album come out in the 1980’s it’s possible we’d still talking about it today and hailing it as a classic.
~ Jamie Laszlo (Sea of Tranquility)
2. BOGWIFE – FROM ASHES / NEW!
13524 Points
Stoner, Heavy Blues, Psych
Aalborg, Denmark
Majestic Mountain Records
I have been a fan of Aalborg, Denmark’s BOGWIFE since their first album, Halls Of Rebirth, from back in 2020, and am now happy to report the four piece is back with their third record, From Ashes, which is all about their desert/stoner with elements of heavy psych and blues splashed in stylings across the new eight tracks. From Ashes will make fans of the band very happy and bring new recruits to the BOGWIFE camp with their great riffs, stoner/psych fuzz, heavy blues infused grunge, and attention to songcraft and melody.

1. WINDS OF NEPTUNE – WINDS OF NEPTUNE / NEW!
17886 Points
Psychedelic Rock, Stoner Rock
Detroit, Michigan, USA
Small Stone Records / Kozmik Artifactz
Michigan-based trio WINDS OF NEPTUNE stands out among the flood of heavy rock releases this month for bringing the grit and sweat to the party, along with a more progressive style. While their full-length self-titled debut certainly includes some hypnotic psychedelic respites in the mix, it’s the high-octane freeway jams, leather-and-bellbottoms vibes, wailing guitar, and liberating grooves that more distinctly represent American pop culture during the “Anything Goes Decade” of the 70s. One of my favorite things about the album, however, is the underlying spacey feel it carries throughout, framing the imagery of WINDS OF NEPTUNE‘S songs with a lysergic sci-fi aura that pairs incredibly well with the band’s overall sound. This is a killer, no-skip album from start to finish.
~ Stephanie Zalta (DoomCakes, Screaming From The Heavy Underground)
Hailing from Detroit, USA, WINDS OF NEPTUNE is a trio who have just released their debut album on the Small Stone Records label. However, the three guys who make up the band are not newcomers but rather veterans of the Detroit music scene and they have known each other for a long time. The band formed during lockdown, and this self-titled debut album features all the songs they have written since then. And it’s a complete success! Despite being the result of several years’ work, the album is completely cohesive, sweeping us away in a frenzy of devastating riffs which instantly takes us back to the ’70s, while also incorporating more modern influences. It’s a delight from beginning to end, and you’ll immediately want to play it again.
~ Jay Baner (La Capsule Stoner)
Skidding across a Detroit parking lot, is Michigan’s WINDS OF NEPTUNE and their chrome-plated UFO as they crash land into the heavy underground landscape. Muscular, loud, unpolished and undeniable. Born during the pandemic by three veterans who played in bands like Flogging Molly, The Meatman and 500 Ft. of Pipe, their debut is a fuzz soaked love letter to the seventies! Freeway burning, bell bottom swagger, cosmic power and enough guitar heroics to make you go nuts! And smeared across that veneer, is a lysergic shimmer that makes every track feel like its leaking some weird color radiation fluid! Gravitational and centripetal all at the same time!

A must-see for underground metal lovers, but perhaps a little courage was lacking to relegate Vast Pyre to 40th place and Zebulon to 36th. Best regards
