KARPACKONAUT – DISTANT SEQUENCE
While we wait for that December Peroration Post and all the Personal Favorites lists to start up again we’ve got another treat for you all! This three-piece from Limerick, Ireland, released a damn fine and damn heavy release in November of 2022. It’s KARPACKONAUT and their second release Distant Sequence. Menacing from the start, the six tracks grab you by the throat with its hardcore, nosie and sludge… But also manages to enchant with its atmospheric moments…
Ioannis Valiakos wrote about their earlier release Light As A Particle: “Irish post-sludge rockers Karpackonaut have just returned with their 5th album “Light as a Particle”. Five improvised tunes and a bonus track, all recorded “on the fly” as the band themselves say on Bandcamp, with no facelift mixes and fixes. The band chose the best cuts, putting together what seems to be their best work to date, hands down.”
Their own words: “The second release of 2022, recorded in various sessions across August/September 2022, “Distant Sequence” takes the usual Karpackonaut formula of full improvisation and tightens the output – Roughly recorded in the jamspace, all music written on the fly and left as-is, no prep, retakes, or fixes, just the best cuts trimmed out and faded in with a little mixing and mastering. This time, over fully instrumental jams cropped from these sessions, vocals were added after the fact, adding a level of form to the usual spacey, flowing, free-form post-sludge of earlier albums.
Slow, meandering post-metal, crushing sludge, stark noise rock and spacey stoner rock breaks within the usual loose and raw doom improvisations abound.”
