Doom Charts – 2023 Favorites – Doktor420

Here’s the good Doktor420! The list went up on Stoner HiVe a week or two ago (where you will also be able see a giant list of bands that also deserve a spot on his list) and is published here once again. He’s the original Guru, the name giver of Stoner HiVe! Responsible for all the cool Peroration images and for making sure instrumental, pyschedelic and kraut rock gets more attention! Part of a DJ collective in Germany that only spins the stuff we love! And if you’re ever on Krach Am Bach, Freak Valley or Stoned From The Underground, you can surely do a little barefeet dance with him… But for now, just check out his list of Favorite albums of 2023! Take his medicine, and you will keep your mind healthy…

We’re honored to present it here another list of Favorite Albums of 2023 by one of the Doom Charts Contributors… There are many as you might know; and many already posted their list of Favorite Albums of 2023 on their own sites or the sites they write for. Some of those lists will be published here as well. And for all the others we advise you to check out all of their personal sites… Cause it might just contain your next very favorite album!

“Another one of those End-Of-Year-Lists. Mainly written in early December, this ranking is just a snapshot, so don’t take the numbers too seriously. Every time I revisited this sheet to add another album, the order would change. One album grows after some spins, for another you need a special mood, but there are always some brand-new albums queued. It’s impossible to pay every album the attention it really deserves. My listening-report on LastFM told me, I played 1004 albums, EPs and singles (76% new), from 947 bands (47% new) in 2023. These are 445 Artists and 763 albums I played for the first time. There are so many stunning new releases every month, that even those I really love, get only few spins though the year. A burden which many of us insane music nerds have to carry. I am an old dinosaur and have been digging Psychedelic Heavy Music for ages: Stoner – Doom – Kraut – Heavy Psych – Space – Post … some with a touch of Grunge, Surf or Oriental Folk. I prefer clean vocals or instrumental, so don’t expect growls in this list, there is also some heavy or angry shouting, but mostly melodic singing. Many Bands/Albums are well known to the scene, but I bet you can find some you never heard of.”
